Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX announced

Believe it or not, Shovel Knight is now 10 years old. Because of this, Yacht Club Games decided to have a special Yacht Club Games Presents presentation earlier today. It is not surprising, but the presentation’s main focus was on announcements relating to Shovel Knight. One announcement in particular may be surprising to you.

You see, Yacht Club Games has officially announced an “enhanced edition” of Shovel Knight. The game, which is called Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX, is also being called a definitive version of the original game. There is currently no release date announced at this time, and it’s highly likely that Nintendo Switch owners will be able to play it in the future. You can see the announcement trailer down below.

  1. I have zero idea why I should buy this instead of playing through the original. It just looked like a bunch of cheats and extra characters

        1. You should have opened with that. It’s understandable to not want to buy a game you’ve already played thoroughly.

Personally, I’ve beaten it 100% on 3DS and never rebought it on Switch. I could definitely be swayed to purchase the DX edition if the price is right. Would I want to if I already had Shovel Knight on Switch? Ehh… it(Dx) would have to be a very affordable price, in that case.

If Shovel Knight Dx releases on Switch, it might be a nice gesture if they gave a discount for any account that has already purchased Treasure Trove (or at least Shovel of Hope). I could potentially see Yacht Club Games doing that.

          1. I might get it on discount eventually- I dunno. Like you said, I suppose it depends on how differently the characters all wind up playing like. Specter Knight was a favorite of mine, and I do have faith that Yacht Club can make all the characters fun to play as.

Eh, maybe I’m just being too pessimistic. We’ll see how it turns out by release.

      1. Online multiplayer is cool, I guess. I just can’t see a reason for myself to buy it again when there’s not much new content outside of the new characters.

To me the new characters are cool, but I don’t wanna pay again just to play as them. Kirby Star Allies had similar incentives to replay the Ally mode since it had so many new characters to play, but idk I could only be bothered to play through it a couple of times. Still cool they added them though

        1. I can actually agree with you here. I had the same issue with Star Allies. The ally mode, at a certain point, begins to feel like a grind.

I think this might get a pass because it’s JUST 20 and the campaign is relatively short. Of course, ally mode was too… I guess it also depends on the characters. While different abilities/characters in Star Allies had different movesets, the way they moved was relatively the same. The four playable characters we have in Treasure Trove really felt unique to their own. If they can spread that kind of variety across 10+ characters, that could keep things interesting.

  2. Meh, I likely won’t get this since I had more then enough fill of SK1 (and SK in general) for now.
I’m more excited for Mina the Hollower.
