Wow, the Greninja amiibo which is exclusive to Toys R Us in the United States apparently sold out within 30 minutes. The figure went on sale last night and was quickly snapped up by those that were close to their computer. This has clearly left quite a few fans frustrated as 30 minutes is a ridiculously short space of time.
Thanks, cobb19 and Sapphire2000

What’s ridiculous is the fact that it went up at 3:30 AM EST! The only people who might have got them were the people on the west coast staying up late on a week night!!
I was refreshing at midnight but nothing appeared!! Why would they put them up when most of the damn country is a sleep!?
I stayed up till 2:30 central, and woke up 3 hours later to the bad news. It’s almost like they are catering more to scalpers than to fans! Although, I imagine they did it during lower traffic times to prevent their sites from crashing
There’s a lot of buzz as Polygon had reported the Wave 4 releases would be between 7 am – 9 PM EST http://www.polygon.com/2015/4/2/8334935/amiibo-pre-orders-reservations-gamestop-target-toys-r-us
Yet people reported them being released at 3 am EST.
Toys R US fucked up so badly with this shit, and I see myself paying fucking scalpers money for Greninja.
Or you can just email Nintendo and complain about it and start a boycott campaign. Boycott them until they restock amiibos.
Don’t buy from scalpers, of all people. JUST DON’T. Let them have their money wasted after buying hundreds of amiibo. Please
Not buying from scalpers won’t be enough. Nintendo is not doing anything about stoping scalpers at all.
Don’t buy from scalpers and never get the Amiibos you want. Good plan.
Ever heard of Japan imports?
Is that you Mr Scalper? Lol
It’s Nintendo’s fault. They don’t make enough of these Happy Meal toys. Capitalism at it’s finest. Supply and Demand. It’s not complicated. Nintendo is obviously cool with people scalping thier shit, otherwise they’d make more.
I think you think it might be easier than it actually is. As a company, does Nintendo want to make money? Yes. As a company, does Nintendo want to piss people off and NOT buy their products? No. The Amiibo craze extended further than just the reach of something for the people playing the game. People are treating them like sliced fried gold and gobbling them up for many reasons, while yes most of its scalpers, its not on Nintendo to make sure some asshole isnt out there snatching them up. Besides, before that even you have to take into consideration that (some) stores like wal mart dont have shelf room for older waves of Amiibo. So yes it’s Nintendo’s fault for starting something bigger then they could control, but to act as if Nintendo is sitting back laughing at you is ridiculous. By now, you would think people would be expecting this.
They ARE laughing at us, the gamers, while money’s rolling in for them. The stock shortages, the retail exclusives, do you realize how much Nintendo doesn’t care about the consumers?
>>>And yet they never lied, they said right from the start that Amiibos will be of limited supply, period>>>
Just because they didn’t lie doesn’t mean it’s not a dick move.
>>>Perhaps but like everything else limited in the past, it always shows up again and again, like those Golden Zelda Wiimotes as an example>>>
>>>Then considering the US is the biggest market when it comes to Amiibos, who knows how many buys these Amiibos at all? What if the demand is way higher than they can put out at most?>>>
Quite possibly, yes – but some limited edition/rare items are never released again – or if they are, it won’t be for a long time. But the Gold zelda wiimote, to my knowledge, was never released again at MSRP – you can currently get it off of Amazon for 95 bucks Used from third party sellers (or $129 for the bundle with the game).
And I certainly think that if Nintendo wanted to make more Amiibo to meet the demand, they absolutely could. That’s what companies do when people still want their product – if they’re smart, they’ll reprint that book or make more units of that toy. Nintendo doesn’t do this in most, if any, cases. In fact, it’s possible that they may have purposefully held back on production of the Wii on its initial run:
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/gamestop-exec-nintendo-held-back-wiis/1100-6168172/
So yeah. For a multi-billion dollar video game company, they sure as hell can meet the supply if they wanted to. It all goes back to Iwata wanting the products to have a perceived and inherent “value” that they artificially try to create by holding back on the supply – so they create an exaggerated demand for it and thus the company is seen as even more “valuable” because of how “in demand” their products are. It’s not consumer friendly, and it’s something that Nintendo needs to change.
*meet the demand
Uh, it’ actually the opposite of capitalism because Nintendo is purposefully making their products difficult to buy and isn’t meeting the demand with enough supplies.
Yea, but Nintendo is a business. Of course they are going to try and create an exagerated demand for their Amiibos. Why wouldn’t they.
I personally like the fact that some Amiibos are hard to find, and rare even. It makes them actually worth collecting. If you could just walk into a store and buy any Amiibo you wanted, it would not be nearly as fun collecting them. I’m actually upset they are printing more Marths..
See, the thing about these is that they aren’t mere toys or figures- they actually do stuff for games. Granted, right now most of it is superficial or unnecessary (costumes in MK8, items in Hyrule Warriors, etc.), but if a game comes out later in which a certain amiibo is crucial and it’s a rare, hard-to-find one that is rarer than hen’s teeth, some people won’t be able to fully complete said game. We can already see this start to happen in Mario Party 10- certain boards are only playable by using amiibo to open them. Without the amiibo, the player is effectively locked out of that content with no workarounds.
To me, that doesn’t sound fair.
Believe it or not some scalpers only sale Amiibos at 20 dollars. Honestly I would pay 20 bucs for Greninja.. You just have to find the right ones. Don’t buy from scalpers who are trying to sell him for 30 or 40 dollars.
I think the ridiculous part is that they went up 4 hours earlier than stated by TRU
I honestly don’t understand what Toys R Us was thinking with this one. 3:30 IN THE MORNING! The only people awake in my town at this time are the crazy party people that never stop playing music or turn off their lights!
30 Mins.
Wow. I’m done.
Also all of the wave 5 amiibos are sold out except Dr.Mario….
GG Nintendo >_>
I’d say the worse part is randomly opening them extremely early in the morning.
The hunt for amiibo has gone from “I’ll try to get every amiibo from this wave.” to “Can’t I get at least one amiibo from this wave without paying someone triple the price? Maybe? Please?”
It’s really frustrating and the worst part: Nintendo knows about it since wave one and it’s still happening. WHY is it still happening?
Nintendo doesn’t care. That’s why its happening.
If they don’t get stuff sorted out, I think it’s time we demand new management at NOA.
That’s the point. Why don’t they care? They should care, for all that matters.
They know how much stuff they’re selling and they know there’s obviously more demand than suppy. This means, we’re at a stage, where Nintendo could make more money, if they produce more figures, because the demand is obviously there. Every resold figure on eBay is money Nintrendo could have had. In other words: they better care. Financially talking, it’s not in their interest to sell these figures out within minutes and then see them getting resold on eBay and amazon. The wierd thing is: they don’t seem to care.
There was a statement, where they said it’ll take time to produce more figures. But the problem has surfaced more than 4 months ago and it’s getting worse per wave, because they still don’t produce more figures – even for the newest waves.
This is what I don’t understand: right now, amiibo could make Nintendo much more money than it actually does, but they don’t seem to change anything about it. They’re a business company, they want our money. We’re willing to give them our money, so why don’t they do anything about it?
All I know is this: If Nintendo (or NOA, or whoever’s calling the shots on the amiibo front) doesn’t do something about it, I’m officially joining the fire iwata and fire reggie bandwagon.
I’m constantly refreshing the preorder websites from where I live (I don’t live in the states), and I’m hoping to god I get at least Pac-Man & Lucina preordered because those are the ones I really want. This is Nintendo’s last chance. If I miss out on a Lucina figure and Nintendo says “Lucina is discontinued”, I’m done with the amiibos altogether.
I’ve been saying to fire those overpaid idiots for years.
Toys r us.com has pac man go quick
it was never official released some ass hole leaked a link
They shouldn’t even take preorders if its gonna be like this
^
none of these retailers should have exclusives because they can’t fucking handle it
^This
Yay, this wave is the biggest mess yet. And here was to hoping Nintendo got their shit together.
Don’t even know what is going on with Ness online pre-orders, then I wake up early for Greninja to see Toys R Us opened it earlier while I was asleep. These exclusives have to stop, but I highly doubt the other amiibo, that are not exclusive will be any easier to find given how it has been going. I’m amazed retailers even want to deal with this.
Some in the last waves have yet to even be restocked. Sigh.
It’s not just about exclusives, sure they make it worse, but these figures sell out everywhere online or in stores within minutes now. And it’s not just the US, it’s worldwide.
Damn that sucks :/ time to sell my kidney
Lmao! That made me laugh.
Makes sense to me, look no matter when they dropped the pre-order it’d be gone. If everyone was waiting for 7am, bye bye servers. Yes, it seemed dishonest, but this was also JUST THE PRE ORDER, release date is still coming, you still have a chance.
This shit is literally like BLACK FRIDAY everytime new waves launch. -__-“
>>>So much energy>>>
it is infuriating me. i have stopped being interested as i feel insulted as a customer. especially in canada where we don’t get the Target exclusives. the stores don’t order more than a couple copies of anything. they’re being paid by microsoft and sony to keep nintendo out of the way.
Nintendo knows full well what the hell they’re doing, dirty dogs…

does anyone know if they’re taking instore preorders????
.
.
.
no
nvm… Just spoke with a ToysRUS guy and he said preorders were ONLY online, therefore everything is truly sold out in the U.S [for TRUS]… I asked if we should expect anymore and he said it up to the manufacturer…. then I asked why they put up PO’s when the country was asleep and he said, “For the order to start fulfilling gradually”…
0_e
i guess no more preorders though. ;(
Doubt it, you will have to wait outside the store early before it opens the day of. That’s how I got Rosalina, and man was that drama, as there were 30 people waiting for 24 of her at store’s open
Two more and I’m done with this Amiibo shit! It seemed cool at first, but it’s become a joke. Fuck off Nintendo.
Honestly it’s pointless to even keep trying anymore for a simple figurine. I would love to have all of them have most of wave 1 and 2 but all others are impossible to get. Nintendo doesn’t want my money I guess. No big deal my life isn’t any different
Guys, It will probably come back in stock like Lucario. I’ll get one somehow, but there is no way I’m paying scalpers.
You people’s need a serious doobie.
Never a wrong time for that
Wow that was quick. I actually considered ordering one but toys r us didnt have greninja amiibo up for order while i was awake.
And apparently Jigglypuff preorders are history as well, judging by all the preorders popping up on EBay, smh
Ness and Jigglypuff amiibo are exclusive to EBay now.
I just wait for the cards, as long as it is a full set of everything. Was never interested in buying Amiibo Figurines luckily. I find the prize of $12.99 per figurine just to much and then there are so many of them. I rather buy more games imo.
Im just hoping to find a Lucina in store when she’s released. I will buy a Greninja off Ebay.. I could care less about the rest. I never planned on collecting all 75-100 different Amiibos they are going to make anyways. As Long as I can get MOST of the rare ones, I’m happy.
What? Greninja Amiibos sold out in 30 minutes at Toys R Us? Better nerf greninja.
