Japan: Nintendo 3DS Sells 26K And Wii U Sells 6K

This week’s Japanese software and hardware charts are in courtesy of Media Create. There was only one new release this week which was the critically acclaimed Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin for the PlayStation 4. You probably guessed that the Nintendo 3DS was the best-selling format as per-usual and it would seem as though the Wii U is suffering from a lack of new releases. That should change soon as the format is getting Xenoblade Chronicles X which should give it a good push. Here’s the best-selling software and hardware this week in Japan.

          1. @Commander,
I used to think you were cool. Then you started becoming an ASS (like everyone else kept saying about you)! I’m starting to wonder if you’re even the same original Commander (who kept changing their name). You don’t even talk like the original Commander did.

And I DO like games. The GOOD ones. Any game I insult is for VERY good reasons. I’m sick to death of hearing crappy-looking games getting praised. I could give a list of games that were critically acclaimed, yet I thought everyone was smoking some sort of wacky weed for liking. I can’t get over the garbage that people like in video games. It’s no wonder why I can’t shut up about it. Every time someone brags about their favorite games (or gives a list of greatest games of all time), I wanna slap them. Because I keep seeing the same HORRIBLE games making every list. I know everybody has a right to their opinions, but it really gets on my nerves.

              >>>When the enemy grows stronger, so do I become worse, the people in here shouldn’t have gone over the line>>>

              >>>Name 3 good games for the Wii U that is Nintendo games that you like then and do not dismiss them because you are horrible at them>>>

              1. Mario Kart 8
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (though I only played the first world so far).
                Pikmin 3

I also liked Hyrule Warriors (until I accidentally deleted my file and never returned). And I’ve been enjoying Captain Toad from what I’ve played so far. Even though it’s more on the casual side.

  1. Wii U always sells 6k every week in Japan. Why are the sales so constant, not taking about being low, but why is it 6k people every week? Why not 4k, 10k, 1k, etc?

It’s like every week 6k people magically feel inclined to buy a Wii U.

    1. I was about to ask this same question, in the same way. It is strange that you posted this, because I think this question every time, yet I never see it, then when I come here to post the question, there it is. Life is strange and makes me upset.

      1. That always happens to me as well. One time, because I never played the original Animal Crossing game, I went out to buy it used for my Gamecube like years after it released. Think it cost like $3 at the time.

Anyway, I brought it home and found out like an hour later that a friend of mine did the EXACT SAME THING as I did only we did not discuss getting the game together. He just had the same thought as I did randomly at the same time like, “Hey, I never played the original AC, but I love WIld World, why not go get the original?”

The probability of that happening was like… so unlikely and unexpected.

Kind of like how I commented this ONE time the same day you were going to comment. What are the chances of that? So weird.

  2. Ps4 outselling wii u in June in japan then sony fans celebrate the most powerful console ever being number 1 worldwide even at Nintendoland.

Where’s that autistic kid N Commander, i want hes retarted brain to say something.

    SEX signing out.

    1. Funny how you only show up when sales articles pop up. Other than that, you always lurk go into hiding.

  3. Lemme guess, you Nintendo fanboys are also going to say Japan has no taste, because no Nintendo games or hardware are on top.

      1. To be fair, the West used to emmulate Japanese-gaming philosophy. RARE w/ Battletoads, Banjo Kazooie & Conker; CORE w/ Tomb Raider’s platforming & puzzles; Syrox Developments w/ Scud: The Disposable Assassin; Ubisoft w/ Rayman, Buck Bumble, & Prince of Persia; Kronos Entertainment w/ Fear Effect; THQ w/ Sphinx & the Cursed Mummy, etc. While Western 3rd parties did incorporate their own styles into their efforts, they still adhered to Japanese gameplay fundamentals & relied more on aesthetics rather than graphics.

Sadly, something happened in 7th gen where the West rebelled & focused on power, photorealism, FPSes/Open Worlds, & long cutscenes. I’m compelled to blame Microsoft & their PC/multi-media agenda which started in 6th gen w/ the original Xbox. But when Sony started emmulating MS w/ PS3, that’s when the Western devs were able to invest almost completely in their own gaming philosophies having 2 platforms that were more homogenized & aligned w/ the agenda MS injected into console gaming. Ot seems 3rd parties got what they wanted all along, & Xbox was that vehicle. Of course, Sony’s smear campaign of Dreamcast & later GameCube helped. & Sony also wanted to abandon 2D-gaming, although Nintendo was also heavyily into 3D-gaming @ 1 time. & yeah, PS3 was in trouble & the tastes of Japanese gamers were also shifting. But I blame the corruptive nature of power the most.

Just because 1 can do more, doesn’t mean 1 should. Less is more. Yadda-yadda. Had power not been so high on the list, Wii U might’ve been a haven for Western 3rd parties & a healthy bastion of Japanese-gaming philosophy. But because power-driven games are so costly & require both huge teams & even bigger sales, variety & creativity are put on the back burner, & usually fry to a crisp. Nowadays, most devs won’t even bother. Fortunately, Wii had the sales #s & delivered great experiences, many of which stayed true the Japanese-gaming philosophy in 7th gen. Hel, Ubisoft even published several Japanese-devved Wii games (No More Heroes, NMH 2, & Tenchu: Shadow Assassins). But just as the East dramatically defined the West, the West has dramatically redefined much of the East.

Final Fantasy & Resident Evil are prime examples of Japanese IPs thay have deviated so much into Western-gaming philosophy, that they’re hardly recognizeable. & the companies, on both sides, who were once profitible, are now struggling because their IPs were drastically changed (mostly for Western audiences), & the dev costs skyrocketed. I wonder if cutscenes & QTEs are filler to the cut costs associated w/ planning & devving gameplay, or do 3rd parties actually include them because they’re part of Western-gaming philosophy?

Thankfully, Nintendo is making only small consessions, though they are still imperfect. & thank the gaming gods that indies & kickstarters exist, or the Japanese-gaming philosophy (which are fundamental to me) would really be dying & left solely to Nintendo & retro games (including Sony’s digital offerings).

Anyway, some of my statements were generalizations, & I’m sure there are some exceptions to Western 3rd-party games that still adhere to Eastern-gaming philosophy. Sadly, those examples are too few.

    1. ‘You Nintendo Fanboys.’ Typical Fanboy comment starter. It’s funny, those that call other people Fanboys, end up sounding like even bigger Fanboys.

    2. No, but there is a significantly smaller population in Japan than in like,… the U.S. or Europe.

Also, they are going through a mobile gaming phase. They don’t buy any hardware over there. So, in a way. They don’t have good taste.

  4. 238 hahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahaha poo Microsoft hahah X’D

    1. Yet the XBOX ONE is still outselling the Wii U weekly, and in every other region, AND, outsold the Wii U’s lifetime sales, even when the Wii U had a year head start… hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha XD

      1. Kaptain Krusha K. Roolenstein

I know. They fail to realize that. Oh Xbox One is failing like if Japan matters for them. They’re an American company that just released it in Japan just because. If it fails, they will still get income from all the other places where it sales from.

        1. Let’s face it, Microsoft are just wasting precious time and resources, releasing ANY Xbox in Japan. Because Japan is Nintendo and Sony country, Microsoft is just an afterthought there. To those Xbox fans on here, it might be sad to hear, but it’s true.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>I find it appalling that our Homeworld and the UK never buys great games like Smash Brothers or Bayonetta but they sure buy crap that’s the worst of their series>>>

    2. Ignoring the fact that it Mario Kart came out in May of last year and Mario Party came out last month…

  5. XBone killing it! They can’t give that shit away! PS4 is actually getting a couple good games. It took about a year and a half. PS4 is still not worthy of a purchase. Maybe next year when PS4 can stand out from it’s XBone clone. Same shit, few exclusives. Lame.

    1. I probably won’t buy a PS4 until the next Playstation comes out, and the price drops dramatically on the PS4. Just like I did with the PS3.

  6. Xenoblade will probably give a slightly modest bump in sales, then it’ll be back to normal for the Wii U.
