Yooka-Laylee is one of the most promising Kickstarter backed project we have seen in a long time. What some of you may be wondering is how the team came about naming the two protagonists Yooka-Laylee. Famed artist Greg Mayles says that they had decided on the names right from the start and they just seemed to fit nicely. Here’s what he had to say about Yooka and Laylee.
Question: Why ‘Yooka’ and ‘Laylee’? Seems a bit convenient to me?
Mayles: It was planned like this from the start. Yes, that’s right. It wasn’t just a happy coincidence that ‘Ukulele’ splits so well into two character names, honest.
Actually, someone on the team picked up a Hawaiian dictionary and apparently ‘’uku’ means ‘a small brained person’ and ‘lele’ means ‘to fly’ or, excitingly, ‘to get off of a vehicle’. That’s definitely not a coincidence either.

Is there a release date for this game yet?
Think are targetting october 2016.
Holy crap, I’ll be 16 by then…
Eek, I’ll be almost 22 by then.
Wait. JK. I’m going to stop aging when I turn 21.
I’ll be twice your age then :p
DONT YOU JUDGE ME! xD
lol I’m not just thought it was funny no offense intended
I was joking too. XD
Oh wait. When I read this earlier, I didn’t notice the 2016. I was thinking this year. Damn. I know it just started and all, but I thought maybe there was a miracle in the works. Oh well. Still looking forward to it.
Are you backing the kickstarter?
No. They already got way more than they asked for. In like a few hours. At this point, there’s not much reason to back it unless I wanted any of those bonus things. Well, I would like a physical copy.
They have physical rewards depending on how much you give. I’m getting the shirt & signed physical PC version (hoping they add wii u). And they put up stretch goals so if enough money is reached they add more. They need like $100,000 to get an orchestra soundtrack. Heard that if they reach that goal it may be the last one and all other money would go to polishing but not sure if that’s confirmed. Local multiplayer was a goal they reached, hoping for an online goal.
Yeah, I didn’t see a Wii U physical copy, so I wasn’t interested. And the PC physical version, you have to spend like 108 bucks. You get extra stuff of course, but I don’t care about it. Only thing I want is a Wii U physical copy. Nothing more, nothing less… Some of the stuff is insane though. Spend like a thousand dollars for a voice spot in the game. Like how much money do some people spend on one game? But whatever. It’s not my money. All I know is, those super rich people got this game well beyond the stretch goals, so I will reap the benefits of their generosity. So thanks to them.
Yea nothing too amazing, unless you have the money, I would love the Nintendo 64 cartridge but not for $535. If I had the money I would have gone for the voice acting, but I don’t. I do actually have enough, but it would clear out my bank account. And who knows if you get any royalties off it. If people ended up loving your voice or sounds and they made a series out of the game, it could lead to some fame though. But that’s a big if.
Yeah, same thoughts. HUGE “if” on whether your voice ends up love and adored by fans and thus in high demand. Considering I hate my own voice, I have extreme doubts anyone else would love it and want it as a character.
On their Kickstarter they said: “Our plan is to have Yooka-Laylee ready to ship on PC, Mac and Linux by October 2016.” And if they stick to their Wii U release on day one then should be the same time :)
Actually it means ‘jumping flea’, regarding the rapid action of the fingers on the tiny strings. But I like this Donkey Kong-esque metaphorical translation better!
It can also mean “the gift that came here,” so I think it has multiple meanings.

That is a very nice attractive platform. It is very well thought of. Finally a 3D platformer! Best part about it is it goes against the laws of nature.
You know what? Now I’m curious to get this game.
For the same reason banjo kazooie was called banjo kazooie
