Nintendo Defeats Patent Case Involving Wii Balance Board

On May 18, 2015, Nintendo defeated a patent case in Seattle federal court. In May 2013, non-practicing entities Ithaca Ventures and Ithaca Development sued Nintendo, alleging that Nintendo’s Wii Balance Board accessory infringed its patent. Nintendo responded by seeking sanctions for filing a meritless case. Ithaca then withdrew its case in Seattle following a finding by a German court that Ithaca’s European patent could not cover the Wii Balance Board, and that Ithaca must pay Nintendo’s attorneys’ fees. Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Richard Medway of Nintendo of America said:

Nintendo will vigorously defend its innovations against patent lawsuits, and will not pay to resolve meritless accusations, no matter whether the case is filed in the United States or elsewhere.

  1. Why is this even a news? Nintendo should have won in a first place. People are hungry for money. $$$

    Lazy American!!

      1. Well said my fellow Nintendo Ninja. We fight the evil forces of Sony and Microsoft that don’t have a home on their own sites, so he roach our site.

        F=ma.

        1. And it’s why I’m sad to say, I’m not even close to being excited for anything new Nintendo brings anymore, not even the oh so mysterious NX which ultimately killed the purpose of owning a Wii U 3 years too early and there’s no New standard 3DS for US in sight and UK still gets better prizes as they continue to hate Nintendo’s guts while the company retardedly ignores it.

    1. It doesn’t matter. American need to get their ass off and work instead of increasing credit card debt.

  2. Xbox brand has lost Microsoft billions and billions! And nintendo just profits off hardware thats dated and has no good software. . . XD

        1. The “The more xb1s sold the worse Microsoft is” part of your statement is a flat out lie.

    1. American can’t come up with something innovating; they steal other’s innovation.

      I’m talking to you, Apple fanboys.

  3. These are the worst kind of patent trolls – the companies that scoop up patents and trademarks and don’t even use them (and for patents that are so generic they can technically be applied by some silly definition to other products, or that can hardly be seen as “infringing” based on what companies are actually using them for) just waiting to try to get a lawsuit on someone. Meritless, indeed.

  4. Shitty vanity lawsuits, this should be the resolution to every single one of them, not just declaring that the claim is bullshit, but also forcing the idiots suing to pay for the expenses of the other party.

  5. Greed is humankind’s number one flaw in this global society.

    So this and the many other lawsuits against Nintendo’s patents are no surprise.

  6. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

    >>>Good, now to reclaim the lost resources from that Sonyan scum who won with the 3D patent for some unknown reason>>>
