Rodea: The Sky Soldier is an upcoming action game for the Wii U and 3DS, designed straight from the mind of Yuji Naka, one of the fathers of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Taking control of Rodea, the flying android protagonist, players complete missions, solve puzzles and defeat enemies as they discover secrets of the past in this new journey through the sky.

Key Features:

  • Touch the Sky – Complete each mission by traversing the aerial kingdom of Garuda while solving puzzles and demolishing enemies! Upgrade your flight capabilities and take full control of the air to discover secrets of the past and hints of the future
  • Colossal Battles – Engage in battles on an epic scale as you combat the massive automatons of the Naga army. Dodge and weave in acrobatic combat as you evade the behemoths’ attacks and locate their weaknesses.
  • Endless Hours of Fun – Replay your favorite levels to better your time and uncover numerous hidden objectives and items. Upgrade your gear to set new speed records and increase your score. Competitive

Characters:

  • Rodea — A humanoid robot with flight capabilities. He attempted to flee to Garuda alongside Princess Cecilia, but failed. After Princess Cecilia teleports him to safety, he suddenly finds himself waking up 1,000 years in the future thanks to Ion, who recovered his body and repaired him back to full functionality. With this new ally by his side, Rodea takes to the sky to defend Garuda against the Naga Empire once again.
  • Ion —  An enthusiastic young woman who enjoys tinkering with machinery. Her physical appearance is nearly identical to Rodea’s memory of Princess Cecilia. She finds Rodea, broken and deactivated, in an ancient ruin and restores him to working condition. With Rodea, she embarks on an adventure to stop the Naga Empire’s invasion.
  • Princess Cecilia — The pure-hearted princess of the Naga Empire. She fled Naga with Rodea in an attempt to stop her father, Emperor Geardo, from invading Garuda. When that plan fails, she teleports Rodea to safety and is never seen again.
  • Emperor Geardo — Once a kind father who showered his beloved daughter, Cecilia, with love and affection. It was for her sake and the sake of his empire that he spearheaded Naga’s development into a mechanized civilization. To this end, he has replaced the majority of his physical body with the most powerful technology his empire can produce, further cementing his status as an immeasurably legendary ruler

If you’re lucky enough to score one of the first-print copies of the Wii U version, you’ll be gifted with the Wii version of the game as well! Exclusive to the Wii version is a multiplayer mode, where friends can challenge each other to see who is the true master of the skies! This sweet deal is currently planned for both North America and Europe, and will allow players to experience Yuji Naka’s original vision for Rodea!

Rodea: The Sky Solider is due to be released on September 22th in North America, and September 25th in Europe.

    1. Me too. Looks like a blend of Nights + Sin & Punishment. It’s a shame it wasn’t developed with Wii U in mind from the start, or it would look even better. The artstyle helps a lot, though.

    1. yea it supposed to be wii game i know but how hard is to add graphics? you add graphics on pc games by mods!!!! i didn’t compare pc i just trying to get a point! like monster hunter for wii u ..so shit graphics yet the gameplay is very strong and i was wondering how the monster hunter could look like the new dinosaur game “Survival Evolved”

      1. Adding graphics isn’t the same as making graphics better. You can add items, you can add environmental graphics that overlay the previous environment to add depth and more detail to it, but it’s much the same as doing something in photoshop – if you draw it at a certain resolution, when you upscale it, it will be blurry or pixelated if it is a raster image. If you downscale it, the quality is retained, because you aren’t trying to add any data to it, you’re taking away. With video game graphics, if you want to make the game look better, aside from adding in really basic superficial stuff, you’d have to completely redo the important parts, like characters – that is, unless they were modeled first at a much higher quality and then downgraded to be optimized for the game.

        1. It also depends on the engine it was built in. A lot of what makes the ps4 games look so good isn’t the models or textures themselves but the effects and shaders the system can handle. Since this was originally built on the wii it probably did not have too great of shading effects built into the game. They could update the engine like was done with wind waker but they probably don’t expect to get the sales to make it worth while.

      2. 1. You should know that monster hunter was a bad game to use lol the graphics have improved since the game first came out but still looks similar but many other things are improved lol

  1. I’d buy this game, but at 75$ (here in Canada) the price is too steep. I guess I’ll wait for a price drop.

  2. Game sounded coo at first but I watched gameplay yesterday and it just seems like you aim at stuff and fly into it as your form of attack and that’s basically it. Seems incredibly boring actually but I’ll have to wait and see if there’s more to it.
