One Of The Games At The Nintendo World Championships Is The Original Legend Of Zelda

The 16 finalists of the Nintendo World Championships will battle it out playing none other than the very first Legend of Zelda for the NES. On June 14th, you can watch the competition live at 3pm PT to see how it unfolds. What do you think of this choice of game for the Championships?

    1. I’m guessing that it’s the same situation as any World Cups, be it Football(Soccer), Cricket, Rugby or any others. It’s set in 1 country, but people from all over the ‘World’ can participate.

  1. I thought it was gonna be like the Smash Invitational from last E3, but bigger and with more games… but if they’re just gonna play Zelda (a single-player game) on NES, I’m not sure I even care.

  2. I am still gonna hold out hope that the final event of the tournament is a game that no one has gotten to play yet outside of Nintendo like SMB3 in The Wizard. Could be the new Starfox or Zelda.

      1. T’would be amazeballs, but Nintendo stated they’re not doing another main Mario game for the Wii U, right? Also, did you rip that from GameXplain’s discussion, cuz they said the exact same thing.

        1. Haven’t watched it. The last discussion video I’ve watched was the Nintendo Theme Park Attractions discussion.

They never said they weren’t doing another main Mario game for the Wii U, they just said they wouldn’t be releasing a new Mario game this year (2015), but 2016 is fair game and so is 2017.

        3. They never said they weren’t doing another main Mario game for Wii U. They just said when they make the one for the NX they want to incorporate something new.. However I honestly don’t think they will make another 3d Mario for Wii U…

  3. Does this potentially prove that the new Zelda will in fact be shown at E3? I think Nintendo would be the idiot not to show it, because it is the game Nintenfans are looking most excited for.

No, because Nintendo already made a huge announcement saying Zelda U will not be at E3. Pretty sure they will show it when they feel like it during a Nintendo direct.

Remember that E3 isn’t the end of all Nintendo news for the year. We could still hear something about Zelda U this year and could even get a new trailer.

The fact that Nintendo said that they are only showing games that are releasing this year and early 2016 on Wii U and 3DS proves that Zelda U isn’t coming until late 2016 anyway. It’s a bit too early to hear about it.

      1. Well, God I hope we hear something about Zelda U this year!! FFS if we don’t, I’d be really pissed off..

Zelda U will be on the next Nintendo direct after E3.

  4. Weird I’m only noticing this now, but I’m thinking that Nintendo intentionally pushed back the release of the new Zelda so it would land on the 30 year anniversary of the original…

I’m thinking Nintendo had a LOT of work to do on the game and it was only natural that it would be pushed back. The environment they showed us before was pretty bland. Lots of trees and a couple mountains. There was like one structure off in the distance and one volcano.

It needs a LOT more to be a good open world game. More castles, enemies, dragons in the sky, rivers, boats, many towns, people, horses, monkeys, other animals, interactions with the forest, etc, etc. Didn’t see even half of that stuff and it will take a long long time for them to add it all.

  5. They pushed it back so it would be on the NX. I know most people don’t want to believe it, but it’s true. I do believe it will release on the Wii U as well, but who would want it for the Wii U when you could buy it for the NX?
