DigiTimes: Supply Chain Partners To Start Nintendo NX Production, Due For Launch In July

It seems relatively likely that the Nintendo NX will launch sometime later next year. DigiTimes is reporting that Nintendo is currently requesting that its supply chain partners start pilot production of components for the device in October 2015 at the earliest. The Kyoto based company is apparently looking to release the device in July 2016. The publication also reports that Nintendo is reportedly looking to ship 20 million NX consoles in the first year.

Nintendo reportedly is looking to ship 20 million Nintendo NX in the first year. The shipment volume of Wii U is estimated at two million units in 2015, according to Digitimes Research.

Thanks, Terry W

    1. I keep saying to everyone this system is coming soon. No later than holiday 2016 and every new article keeps confirming that. I’m very excited for this. It can’t come soon enough. I just hope Nintendo makes the right moves with this system this time around.

      1. Yep, I’ve been saying the same thing too. Unveiling in 2016 e3 and available by fall at latest and possibly available immediately or within a few weeks to capitalize on media coverage. It’s a very Apple-esqe move.

        1. Very applesqe? Go look at the release date for their watches you idiot, apple does not release in a timely manner.

    2. bull, all consoles release in the November range, October earliest, but they want that holiday boost. and I think Nintendo would just show it off at 2016 and release it 2017, due to the fact that many big titles like Zelda are coming out

      1. The only big title coming for the WiiU in 2016 that we know of is the new Zelda and I’m 100% certain it will also be a NX launch title. Just like what they did with Twilight Princess. You guys need to see the writing on the wall. Everything that happened leading up to E3 2015, during and after points clearly to the NX being released in 2016.

        1. the problem with that is that road of sega, if you know what I mean. Knowing nintendo though, I doubt next year is the release still. However, like I always say, “nintendo always has tricks up their sleeves”, so they just might surprise me about the NX…as you say.

          1. Yes, but Nintendo generally releases on a 5 year cycle anyways. If they support the WiiU for another year themselves it will be fine. I’m just hoping they do it right.

            1. July of 2016 is likely Japan. NA is September at the earliest. A 4 year cycle is NOT the end of the world. Original Xbox to 360 was only 4 years.

          2. July of 2016 is likely Japan. NA is September at the earliest. A 4 year cycle is NOT the end of the world. Original Xbox to 360 was only 4 years.

    1. “We do the bulk of our business in the holiday season, probably about 60% in October, November, and December. You want to launch games when people are in the mood to buy.”

      Nintendo be drunk.

    2. July of 2016 is likely Japan. NA is September at the earliest. A 4 year cycle is NOT the end of the world. Original Xbox to 360 was only 4 years.

  1. If this is true, does this mean the Wii U had a shorter shelf life than the original Xbox? That was replaced after only 4 years or so…

    1. No, you’ll still be receiving new games for the system until the beginning of 2018.

      So it’ll still be around

      1. Your funny, once release nintendo will not produc2 anything. They might wrap up on production and since there is no 3rd party its over.

        1. Actually, development will still take place as this console isn’t going to be a “simple replacement” for either of the current consoles (3DS and Wii U).

Also, how can one be funny if one hasn’t mentioned anything funny?

          1. You’re delusional if you really think that the NX is a third pillar like Nintendo said. That was just a way of not scaring WiiU owners and possible WiiU owner into running away from the WiiU and killing it off faster than Nintendo intends to (2016). Everything Nintendo has said to this point clearly indicates that the NX is a home console and you’d be mad to think that Nintendo will have two home consoles compete with each other in the same market especially when one is already dead in the water. The NX is the WiiU’s replacement, hence why you didn’t see any support for it at this year’s E3 beyond the games that we already knew were coming soon.

        1. That’s what I was thinking when Iwata suggested that they plan on supporting Wii U even after the NX launches… Nintendo is historically bad at completely jumping ship as soon as they release (as early as when they announce, really) new hardware. How many 1st party classics hit the N64 after the GCN came out? What big Wii games did Nintendo push after the launch of the Wii U?

          1. The reason for that is because Nintendo is also a Hardware maker that’s trying to move hardware. Nintendo will not put new software on old hardware when they are trying to convince gamers to buy their new hardware. That’s just counter productive. Not even Microsoft or Sony does that. The only reason why we don’t think of Microsoft and Sony in this way is because they produce as many games as Nintendo as a first party developer. Think about any first party Sony or Microsoft game and then think about if they usually ever get released on old hardware. You will always find third party supporting old hardware for a decent amount of time after new hardware is released because the old hardware has a way larger install base and at the end of the day all that third parties are interested in is how many copies of their games they can sell.

      2. They haven’t got any new games coming NOW from e3 (animal party don’t count) so what makes you think they will last another three years

    2. The original Xbox had over 7 to 8 years before it was discontinued.

Wii U will probably last the 5 years that Nintendo were aiming for.

    1. Same, but they kept saying that they wanted to surprise fans, and what’s more surprising? Releasing a brand new beefy system over the summer holidays that is capable of playing third party games AND Nintendo games.

Personally, I want them to releasing in July 2017

  2. July is a bit early for a new console release, we don’t want this to be another Xbox 360 (Hardware wise).

To be fair, I understand where Nintendo is coming from, July and August is pretty dry (Like my pride..) for games and I get that with this releasing in July would mean people will have one big thing to look forward to and play over the summer.

But, if this console is going to be the next in line to the console throne then it should be delayed until 2017 so Nintendo can beef up the hardware to match the PS5 and Xbox 4 (According to sources, Sony is releasing the PS5 in 2017 because of the Morpheus and 4K Gaming).

    1. They ‘should’, but they won’t. They’ll always be a gen behind after the WiiPacalypse.

And all the cash the Wii printed? Nintendo is burning right through it. Once they’ve spent all the casual-cash they made rebuilding their reputation, I hope they don’t fuck up that bad again.

  3. Not even 5 whole years before the Wii U’s successor arrives?
Also, the fact that they could be thinking of shipping that many consoles in one year makes me really curious about what the NX is gonna be.

    1. Don’t you see? Nintendo is going to be shipping out 20 million pacemakers for free as part of their biggest apology yet!

  4. I could see them wanting to push the NX out asap. Maybe even pulling a TP with the new Zelda, being on both systems and all. But July does seem early. I don’t think next year is out of the question, but definitely not till like Q4

    1. November would be a much better date as Nintendo can work out teeving problems with their system before they ship it

  5. I don’t care anymore. Unless Nintendo (or really trusty sources) release information and photos, these news will always be rumor to me now.

Nintendo can’t afford to risk releasing an unknown console without informing the public and only took 9 months for all components and full production to complete that many items? I fear quality control could be compromised, just like what happened to some Amiibo production errors.

    1. Actually, doing this might actually win some favour into developers and the general public who wants a powerful Nintendo console. It’s been done before, Sony and Microsoft do it was well so don’t be complaining about it just because it’s Nintendo.

Don’t forget, they’ve been developing the system for a long time and the fact they have way more manufactures working on the building the console, we could see the NX being the first console without any major bugs at launch.

    2. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>They’ve been working with the NX since the Wii U was finished, and who in the holy N releases a console without telling the public?>>>

  6. If this is true i’m thinking NX is some kind of lessor machine. Maybe aimed at the casual market and involving android in some way like other rumors have hinted at, as opposed to being the more advanced home console I personally want with specs that will allow 3rd parties to support it with multiplats for the rest of the Xbox One/PS4 cycle and early into the next gen.

(Here’s hoping it’s *AT LEAST* as powerful as Xbox One, although it should really be ahead of that to future proof it considering we just bought a console from them right before the others launched and after trailing behind they’re launching another)

    1. If that was the case then why did third parties gave positive feed back about the console? Sounds to me like it’s going to be a more powerful system aimed at everyone but more for gamers.

      1. We don’t even know which developers gave positive feedback, or what they found positive about the system. Saying it’s going to be more powerful than PS4 + XB1 just because some developers said positive things about it seems a bit farfetched to me. Developers gave positive feedback about the WiiU too back in the time, and we can see how that went.

  7. If Nintendo is stupid enough to piss off ten million loyal Wii U owners by killing it off in exactly one year is ludicrous!! If the NX launches before 2017… I’ll never buy it.

    1. All the WiiU was out since 2012 and if the NX launches by the end of 2016 that would give it a life span of about 4 years. So I don’t really know where you got that Nintendo killed the WiiU in one year. Nintendo really tried to make the WiiU be successful and gave it a lot of support but it just simply isn’t selling and Nintendo is a business at the end of the day. They need something new to turn around the other half of their business which is the console market.

  8. I like my Wii U I just wish it got the support the 3ds gets from Nintendo this is such bull shit if it’s true an I am not buying it

  9. well I have to say I am gutted, and I can’t waiting for Nintendo to let us know that those who bought a wii U can exchange their wii U for a NX system. For me it’s just signing the death certificate of the the wii U.

    1. The WiiU has been dead for a while now. A console that’s already selling miserably cannot survive on first party titles alone and Nintendo really tried to keep the WiiU floating. I love my WiiU but the writing is on the wall. I think Nintendo is making the right move to bring a new console to the market in 2016 and I hope they do it right this time around. However it is quite possible that Nintendo has some incentive program for current WiiU owner, henc why they are aiming for a 20 million NX produced in the first year if this new is correct. Because even the insanely popular PS4 didn’t move those numbers in a year.

    1. Again with this bullshit?

Dreamcast was a only failed due to what Sega pulled with the Saturn by announcing the system without ANYONE knowing a head of time. This effected the Dreamcast heavily which is why it failed… this is actually different as devs have been shown the system during the E3 show and many of them viewed it as positive meaning the NX is pretty much the saviour of Nintendo.

      1. lol, what? You really believe the NX is going to be “the savior” of Nintendo without even knowing anything about it, just because anonymous developers gave positive feedback about it? I’d like to remind you that the feedback for the WiiU was positive as well in the early days, and we see how that turned out, lmao.
Also, I’m pretty sure the person you replied to was comparing the WiiU to the Dreamcast, not the NX.

        1. Both actually. Sega rushed the dreamcast out which gave the others time to grow. Ps4 and xbone have already had time to grow a user base. Nintendo got discouraged after gamecube, what they fail to realize is that gamecube did bad because the ps2 had a dvd player, and was cheaper than most dvd players already on the market. If nintendo went back and made a gamecube style console with good graphics they would do just fine unfortunately it feels too late for that. Nintendo will make the same mistake and try to make a underpowered gimmick console that they think appeals to children when in reality appels to nobody

  10. This is BULL! If this was true, they definitely would have mentioned it ((or showed it) at E3.

  11. Peanut Butter Kit Kat

Releasing a new console in July? Nintendo’s business is done around around the holiday period.

  12. It would be fucking bulldhit if NX was released in 2016. That is way to early, and I’m not particularily fond of hving only 1 year left before the Wii U becomes abandonned.

  13. If they’re really looking to sell 20 million in the first year then it’s clearly not a powerful home console, it suggests that it’s quite cheap, similar to that one article stating the NX is a beefed up WiiU with no Gamepad for $149.

And Nintendo did say at some point that it’s not replacing the WiiU, that it’s supposed to exist alongside it or something.
If it is a replacement to WiiU and releases next year then I won’t be one of the “20 million” buying it. I expect nothing less then 5-6 years of full support for my WiiU.

    1. Seeing how they have done nothing really with the gamepad, a cheaper console getting all the Nintendo exclusives could be quite appealing (as a secondary device) for many people. The U might be supported longer that way too as games would certainly be made compatible. 20M is still stretching it.

  14. Ahaha, this is bull. I’m still calling it, 2017 and no earlier. No matter what the reports say, preparation does NOT mean instant shipping.

  15. If this does release in 2016, then it’ll just be an upgraded Wii U. Much like how the new 3DS is. It will NOT be a successor to the Wii U.

    1. It has been said that the NX (or whatever it is named) will be a Wii U with a tiny leap of quality.

  16. I just read the original article you took from he doesn’t give a single source from Foxconn on them starting production for a 2016 release, the writer doesn’t even mention who he got his information from.

  17. AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH ultra fake and people still believe this s*it
Iwata said they will talk about NX at next E3, do you really believe that Nintendo will launch the console in June 2016 without advice? C’mon people, wake up!

  18. This is a bit early… And so many units too. I think (hope, plead, wish) Nintendo finally decided to loosen the philosophy of power saving over graphical power. If so, the NX might be tasty indeed. I wanna play with power again, Nintendo Power.

    1. True. Until the GCN, Nintendo used to have the most powerful hardware in the market; then, this restraint philosophy is a new thing, started during the Wii era.

(Not questioning the Wii’s importance to Nintendo.)

And horsepower, besides better graphics, also provides better AI, leading to longer, more complex, more challenging games.

  19. The Wii U is done after this year. Accept it and move on, Nintendo is a business and the Wii U isn’t selling. Businesses are abouv making making money and the NX is coming out late next year.

  20. If it does release next year, we’ll be looking at a minor graphics boost at best (basically a Wii U without the gamepad, as others have said), and it will be targeted at casuals. If that is the case, they may well and truly support the Wii U into 2017 and this won’t actually be a direct replacement…

      1. And casuals won’t buy their system so in the end Nintendo will lose and us old school fans will laugh at their downfall for betraying us.

  21. If the NX is indeed a Wii U upgrade, yeah, makes sense a tentative mid-2016 release date.

But that will make Wii U’s lifespan quite short, which pretty much contradicts this:

    http://goo.gl/mNCQRC

  22. Not happening in July, no one does that. I think they’ll give us some specs and stuff at e3 2016 and then show us the system at e3 2017 followed by a November 2017 launch.

  23. This makes me cringe like crazy. If they say what its true. If they are producing the console this year & they expect to sell by Summer of 2016. They must be crazy. There’s no way a console is going to sell well during the summer. When everyone is short on money. My guess is that we could expect a Nintendo Direct by February Or close to April and it would be stupid if they release it by summer. They need to show it off during E3. Which is a bit obvious. I don’t know we just have to wait. If this is true. Then I will have to hold off on buying an Xbox One…..man this makes me cringe.

    1. As much as I hate Xbox….don’t hold out on buying one cause of nx. Nintendo doesn’t deserve sales after betraying the u owners. Especially if it’s just a slightly improved Wii u.

      1. They didn’t betray Wii U owners they need another more powerful console to stay in business, they already did that with New 3DS. Betraying would be more like not releasing a game at all and stop shipment of Wii U copies at retail, both of which Sony mostly did with the Vita. Don’t call me a fanboy for saying this

        1. They should have had a powerful system from day one. They betrayed us. And you said fanboy not me but if the shoe fits…

  24. We already had NX rumors being deconfirmed so i’m not believing this. If Nintendo really is releasing it that time then that doesn’t really leave a lot of time for 3rd parties to begin porting games over unless the architecture is that powerful

  25. Assuming this info is accurate. July makes sense. It comes off the heels of E3 reveal. It will be on the minds of consumers. Summer is the slowest time of the year for game releases so it will be unique. They will want to have as large an install base as possible for Holiday 2016 game releases

  26. As far as this goes, there isn’t enough proof, but as far as everything Nintendo says… I could not even guess what the hell is actually going on. All I know is I hate surprises, cause they usually suck.

And with the way things have been going, Nintendo really could pull some completely random shit. They constantly contradict themselves, anyway. So it’s hard for me to believe anything they say.

And considering the New 3DS came out of no where.. No telling what Nintendo could do with the NX.

  27. thenintendoreviewer

2017 sounds more likely if NX is a 9th gen system. I imagine it will be revealed next year but released the following year. That’s usually how Nintendo works.

  28. Bad source, they are going to announce more details on the NX in June 2016 at E3, and then have it launch the next month…..maybe Digitimes source is predicting another piece of hardware like the QOL system. Also since everything they talk about wouldn’t be 20 mil to start for a hardware system.

  29. Wow! NX should be release in next year. Nintendo had to support Wii U and NX at the same time so that NX would not die right away.

  30. “Nintendo is dying” they said. They couldn’t have been more wrong, holy shit, they’re bursting with money.
