  1. I can see how Super Mario Maker would be GOTY

Its a unique experience featuring Gaming’s biggest icon and delivering dreams every gamer had for years: There own mario stage. and With 3.3 million stages and rising, new and free updates and the new online sorting program they announced last night, its a game worthy of being nominated for GOTY.

      1. As a huge Fallout fan, I seriously hope it doesn’t. Even disregarding the huge optimization problems and bugs, the game has been dumbed down beyond recognition. Bethesda confirmed that Fallout 3 wasn’t an anomaly.

It would be hilarious if Undertale stole the win in the RPG category, though.

          1. Were you interested in the game, or do you agree with me?
Huge disappointment, in my opinion. Bethesda doesn’t understand what made the first two so good in terms of writing, and the RPG elements are much more solid both in the previous ones and in New Vegas. I’m waiting for Obsidian to save the franchise yet again.

    1. Oh no. This is the year Nintendo’s soul died. Now they’re just a carbon follower of BS gaming scams like Microtransactions, rushed games, multiply delayed games into high heaven, FUCKING MOBILE…

            1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Okay, this pisses me off. Just like that dick riding fan The Nami trying to equate my opinion with Hitler killing Jews in that one article. He’s not the same as ISIS because he’s not killing people for differing opinions. As for the republicunts part… *shrug* I have nothing to say about that. >.<

                1. Rogue Master XenoRidley X3 ~*Proud Owner of the great PS4 & the great n3DS! Oh & I guess the dying mediocre Wii U is okay, too!*~

Well I can rarely tell with you since you practically laugh in every single comment of yours. <..<

God damn it! Fuck you, WordPress! It cut off the end of my god damn comment! ARGH!!!

  2. No Nintendo won’t win much this time around. But seriously, where the hell is Xenoblade Chronicles? Why does every game awards show ignore Xenoblade? It’s by FAR the best RPG, not only of this year, but this whole generation…..

    1. I dunno why, these Game Awards seem to just treat December as a release deadzone. There’s no mention of Just Cause 3 anywhere here because it’s not out yet. Unfortunately, it won’t get counted next year either, since I don’t see any mention of last year’s Talos Principle either.

      1. It takes time to plan and organize. That said, it would be ideal to just have the awards early the following year. That way, no games are exempt just became they were released at the end of the year.

  3. Best RPG is going to be undertale that’s for sure and maybe for best independent game
Splatoon is nominated for a lot of categorie’s but as strong competition so let’s hope that it going to get a GOTY
Mario Maker as a big chance as best familie game it’s Mario after all

  4. I hope Undertale and Splatoon win every category they’re nominated for, though Rocket League is quite deserving as well.

  5. Witcher 3 is definitely GOTY material. I haven’t had a chance to play Fallout 4, but from what I’ve seen, it’s also a very worthy contender. As far as most anticipated games go, ReCore should have been on that list.

    1. I’m expecting Witcher 3 to take the GOTY purely because both MGSV and Fallout 4 haven’t been received as well as they could have by their respective users/fanbase. Bloodborne, while a good game, doesn’t feel like GOTY material to me. I’m divided about Mario Maker, since I consider it to be the most creative of the bunch but it’s still ‘just a 2D platformer’ at its core, so there would probably be an outrage if it takes the prize. They even risk to drag the interest in the awards through the mud, it’s only their second year.

Witcher 3 seems to be the safest bet by far.

      1. HollowGrapeJ (A.K.A. Shampoo- Destroyer Of Girl Type Ranma & Akane Tendo And Soon To Be Married Wife Of Boy Type Ranma Saotome Of The Anything Goes Martial Arts School)

Witcher 3 is by far my favorite game this year.

        1. Have faith.
Honestly, I’d love to see the indies winning everything they can. It would be great to see that the industry recognizes innovation and artistic intent, and the outrage would be hilarious.

          1. lol well that sure would, I know F4 is going to win almost everything on there though. That game had so much hype, and most of all, its recent hype so it has a lot pushing it. Oh well, ill be voting for Ori and ill keep faith, but Im not going to expect much. Agree though, I want these great games to receive as much praise as they deserve. Regardless of platform they should be acknowledge when they are indeed great games.

            1. I don’t know about F4. It had a strong backlash as well. That may affect (or should, at least) the results. If a barely functional game gets the GOTY, then I know the awards are a joke.

    1. I can’t wait to play it now! It was part of the bundle I purchased. Gears HD, 1,2,3, Ori, RareReplay. I never hears of Ori, but I’m stoked now!

  6. I’m hoping for:
Game Of The Year – Bloodborne
Developer Of The Year – Kojima Productions
    Best Independent Game – Undertale
Best Mobile/Handheld Game – Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate
Best Narrative – Life is Strange or The Witcher 3
Best Score/Soundtrack – Fallout 4 or MGSV: TPP
Best Performance – Mark Hamill as The Joker (Batman: Arkham Knight)
Games For Change – Life is Strange or Undertale
    Best Shooter – Splatoon
Best Action/Adventure – Batman: Arkham Knight or MGSV: TPP
    Best RPG – Bloodborne
Best Fighting Game – Mortal Kombat X
Best Family Game – LEGO Dimensions
    Best Sports – Rocket League
    Best Multiplayer – Splatoon
Best Art Direction – Ori And The Blind Forest

  7. I’m amazed how categories splatoon is in and hope wins in all and this game will fairly well, When Mario is in the game of the year it usually wins and becomes years game.
I don’t like any of the fighting in the list, i do have to say all fighting were all average and what about doa last round it’s better than all the games in the list, don’t tell me Mortal Kombat X will win that will be so stupid.

    1. A-HEM… MH4U is in handheld. That’s Nintrndo exclusive. They could totally win as it def deserves the award.

      Wait, that’s Capcom I guess..but it’s on a Nintendo handheld.

  8. Im kinda sad there is no Jump n Run/Plattformer category. Maybe there were not enough this year but I fear that overall people are not really interested in them anymore.
On the other hand this event still has to cater to the big casual audience atm ,aka third person and fps, so I hope that in the future it will get more categories.
Right now it also gives the impression that the AAA games are always the best and Indie games have to get their own category to win something. My personal view of that has pretty much already flipped now that I think about it. The big titles often feel only average to me and its the little stuff I get the most enjoyment out of.
For example while I think Witcher3 is probably one of the best big titles this year, the fighting system is imo so bad that it kept me from playing more than 15 hours so far. On the other hand stuff like RocketLeague or ShovelKnight:PlagueKnight Campaign had me entertained all the time while offering a lot of depth in all of their mechanics.

My personal GotY is probably Mario Maker since I play it every day buuuuut that is all user created content so I am not sure how to compare that to other normal games.

  9. The Witcher 3? One of the worst games I played all year. I went into it with high expectations, due to all the hype and praise. It was such a boring experience, and the combat was awful – clearly it wasn’t a priority. They just wanted character interaction – cutscene after cutscene, dialogue dialogue dialogue. If I want a cinematic experience, I’ll watch a movie. I’ll never understand all the praise it gets, but it’s clearly not my type of game.

As for the other GOTY contenders… I’ve only played Bloodborne and Mario Maker aside from Witcher. Bloodborne was okay at best, and Mario Maker is a good game, but wasn’t really amazing in my opinion. I expected more from Mario’s 30th. I could see Fallout winning just cuz ZOMG FALLOUTZ. Despite all the bugs the game has.. -_-
