Lucky Japan! According to today’s Japanese Nintendo Direct, Nintendo will be bringing Earthbound’s sequel, Mother 3, to Japanese Wii U Virtual Console on December 17 — the same day the Lucas amiibo launches. Both Earthbound: Beginnings (Mother 1) and Earthbound have previously come to North America’s Virtual Console, however there is no confirmation that Mother 3 will be doing the same.

You never played the fan translation? Believe me, it was worth it- I must have played it from start to finish 7 times before my flash drive containing it got corrupted. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.

I don’t care if they bring Mother 3 to the West (though I’d gladly buy it if I did), I’m just intetested in what Itoi thinks about this ‘sudden’ revival of his series. If only he wanted to make another one…

Why doesn’t Nintendo just buy the English fan translation and officially release that? If Valve could buy a fan’s design of the Administrator in TF2 and make it the official design, why couldn’t Nintendo do something similar?

Maybe he did, but I like to believe the guy deserves something for all his work. Translation, especially of an entire game, is no small task. It’s why localizing Xenoblade Chronicles was such a gamble.

Tomato contacted Nintendo. He told them that they could use his Mother 3 translation (which is way better than whatever Nintendo’s official translators could have done, believe me) for free, that he didn’t care as long as it came to the West. Nintendo is sitting on an already translated Mother 3 ROM free of charge, they just refuse to publish it because it’s not a translation made by the company.

C’mon! I need this NOW. I’m really happy they’re doing anything at all with the game though. Hopefully its like what happened with EarthBound and they’ll show it at the next E3 for america.
It is my belief that if enough NA people buy Mother 1 and Mother 2/Earthbound on VC, those thickheads at NoA will FINALLY get the message that we really want the third game.
Speaking of Mother, has anyone heard anything new about the fan made Mother 4 game lately? I thought it was supposed to already be finished, but it must have been delayed or something.
It was supposed to come out last summer, but they delayed it without mentioning any specific time frame so people weren’t disappointed by its absence. They have a devblog on Tumblr you can check for weekly-ish updates. The team is on vacation now and they’ll resume posting next year.
They need to get Mother 3 overseas. They have to.
