Nintendo Files Patent For Supplemental Computing Devices For Game Consoles (Cloud Gaming)

nintendo_cloud

A new Nintendo patent has emerged which is likely to be related to the upcoming NX platform. The patent was filed by Nintendo on June 3rd, 2014 and describes a patent for a game console which features a detachable computing device. Here’s the description of the patent along with an image of how it is supposed to work.

“Supplemental computing devices that provide processing and/or storage resources to game consoles to assist these game consoles in executing a game. In some instances, a game console locally executes a copy of a game using resources of the game console. In addition, however, the game console may couple to a supplemental computing device that includes resources that the game console may also utilize to increase the speed or quality of a user’s gaming experience. For instance, the supplemental computing device may couple via a physical connection (e.g., a wired connection) to the game console for processing data associated with the game and providing a result back to the console, and/or for storing game data on behalf of the game console.”

        1. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!}

          I got it playing on a separate tab in the background. I’m waiting for any Nintendo announcements & for when Luke Skywalker is on stage. @.@ Oh & I’m waiting for any game announcements for PlayStation 4.

    1. The patent appears to be about a “local cloud” where two devices work as one not playing games that are stored kn a server somewhere. It negates the issues associated with the latter or at least I see how it could while boosting loading times offering more processing power and enabling the quick uploading of a game so to have the same game on a home and handheld console.

    2. You don’t seem to understand the patent. 1) it’s most likely for some kind of backwards compatibility 2) it could also be used for MMO and online multiplayers. 3) it could also be like xbox’s cloud graphics that allow a server to boost graphical performance with internet connection. BUT this takes it a step further by barrowing power from unused local systems (your neighbor.) 4) this could also be used in a modular sense where in 5 years or more the Xbox 4 and ps5 come out then Nintendo can make a small cheap system (150$) that uses your home wifi to boost graphic performance of the system you already own. 5) it could also be used for lab parties but each system could localy process different elements making it able to boost performance (number of players, graphics, loading times exe) 6) it could also be used to barrow power from your handheld to do small tasks and also barrow assets from a pre downloaded game. Or rather. IF you have a game on your handheld you might not need to download as much on to your home system, because it can load assets of a game from the handheld with wifi. OR it could take some heat off the home system by allowing the handheld to render some things ahead of time

        1. its actually not that far fetched. cloud gaming has bin around for a while, and the xbox one already has cloud graphics so well made at this point that the new crackdown well have full destructible environments all your home system dues is worry about your character. servers do all the rest of the graphic work. how ever I think this is most likely part of the NX having a handheld and home system that well share functions. this could mean that the home system could barrow game assets and RAM from the handheld. and if you had a good internet connection you could use your home system to have better graphics on the handheld

    Wait. Does this mean Nintendo Account won’t be coming with cloud services for transferring save data & digital purchases? o.O Please tell me I’m just reading this article wrong! D:

  2. I just hope my 3DS purchases can carry over to the next system. It would suck to still be tied to one system in this day and age.

      If Nintendo is smart, they’ll follow the same cloud system & account sharing as Sony is doing with the PS4, PS3, & PS Vita. If they aren’t, they’ll try to come up with their own retarded Nintendo way of doing it & possibly fuck it right the hell up. :/
