Nintendo may have missed its earnings expectations for the third quarter financial results 2015 but it does have some big titles in store for gamers this year on Wii U. We’ve already seen a number of titles that have surpassed a million units sold, but what about what’s yet to come? Well Nintendo has detailed the six games announced so far with a definite 2016 release and you’ll be pleased to know that The Legend of Zelda Wii U is still on track for release on the platform this calendar year.
- The Legends of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD – March 4
- Pokkén Tournament – March 18
- Star Fox Zero – April 22
- Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem – 2016
- Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games – 2016
- The Legend of Zelda Wii U – 2016
It’d better be, I can’t wait much longer now…
Games to but in 2016:
– Fire Emblem Fates
– TPHD
– Zelda U
buy* dammit
Lets be real here…
Half of the games on that list are ones we actually care about.
TPHD? BAKA. Just play the Wii version it’s 99% the same.
True, but that 1% is the HD that many people are looking forward too lol
Better graphics, not the crappy Wii controls, smaller improvements like horse riding and swimming (still waiting to hear more about that). As a big Zelda fan, I wouldn’t want to miss out on the definite version of the game, especially without the blurry, muddy graphics…
Ofcourse it is… did you expect something else?
Well, we expected it in 2015, so…
-||The last games to come to the Wii U a long with 3 unnannounced ones is my calculation||-
Yes, those will be that last Wii U games. The time it will take to develop anymore would take too long, and would be competeing with the NX. You could probably just wait and buy Star Fox and Zelda on the NX…
-||Star Fox won’t come to the NX, Zelda however has a slight chance||-
It’s best to let them dream….
-||I enjoy crushing dreams||-
Nope nope, Zelda U will stay Wii U exclusive.
-||High Command can say whatever they want, decisions change over time and when the Home Console version is unleashed, the Zelda game has a small chance of getting an NX version||-
lol. If they want to lose a shitload of money on the development of the game, then sure – it’ll remain Wii U exclusive.
No way Zelda remains exclusive to Wii U. It would be a bad business decision. They want to entice people to buy an NX, and what better way than launch with a brand new Zelda game.
You may be right, but I’m under suspicion that every Wii U game will be made available on the NX….. at some point.
Considering the small install base on the U, and the speculated wonder of the NX, they could do ports to the U as a fan service for early titles.
Can’t wait for the crossover I will do exactly what I’m doing in xenoblade grinding like crazy
It’s too bad I’m not personally interested in the remaining titles. Xenoblade Chronicles X is the last game I get for Wii U but it is an amazing title I’m sure to keep playing through out this year. I’ll be happy when Monster Hunter Cross is ever released too. I’m sure Nintendo is thinking about it.
Capcom* is thinking about it.
A whopping 6 games for an entire year, with one of those 6 titles looking to be a mediocre at best remaster, and another one being part of a franchise that’s been trash in the last years, judging by its latest entries. Meanwhile, the competition is getting 40+ games during the same timeframe.
This is absolutely disappointing, Nintendo better have some more unannounced games – decent unannounced games.
This is not the entire release schedule. These reports are not complete. It is like this every quarter. That is why there is no dates after April. April starts their new fiscal year.
Hmm, what do you mean with no dates after April? Three of the six games are scheduled for “2016”, and I’m pretty sure they won’t come out in April or earlier. That’s their schedule for the whole year so far, as far as I can tell.
Example being March 4. Every financial report speaks of upcoming games with dates. They never include dates for non upcoming games and never unannounced games. They basically a snapshot for investors. What I’m trying to say is don’t look too much into it. Sony and Microsoft is the same way just their 3rd party list is bigger. Which the 3rd party is not in this article but there is one. Mostly eshop games on that one for nintendo.
Yes, of course they wouldn’t include games that aren’t announced yet. But considering we’re already in 2016, it is slightly worrying to me that there’s only 6 announced games as of now. Even if they did announce games in the upcoming weeks/months, they’d either be scheduled for the end of 2016 or 2017. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Nintendo doesn’t release games the same year they announce them very often; at least in the recent years, that hasn’t been the case.
So yes, while that list contains games that have been announced already, it’s just hard to believe we’ll get many more games from Nintendo for the WiiU in 2016 than the ones in that very list.
*right now
Not “as of now”, my bad. :)
People said the same thing last year and after every quarterly financial report. It is said every time. Other than financial information these reports are not great at provided a yearly outlook of games to be released. 6 games from Nintendo in a year is not far fetched. The problem is the 3rd party releases. Mostly small developers\indies that will cover missing time frames like Lost Revers, Mighty No 9, Yooka Laylee, and various eshop titles that will launch.
If your insulting Starfox Zero you’re an idiot. It’s not a remake. There are other games just not on that list. Pikmin 4, Retro’s Game for example. And with an NX Handheld coming, that’s a big thing Nintendo has coming this year. As for 40+ games on Xbox One and PS4….yeah…cause those are multiplat systems, PS4 still has no gems except Bloodborne (I have a PS4) and Xbox One still doesn’t really have much of anything. Both those consoles are full with shitty games that are broken, full of patches and so forth. Quality>Quantity. Would you rather have 10 perfect games of 20 mediocre ones?
There is only one remaster on that list, so I think it should be rather obvious which title I’m talking about.
Pikmin 4 has not been announced for the WiiU, same goes for Retro’s game.
I’m talking about the WiiU, not the NX. The release of the NX, whatever and whenever it may be, won’t do anything for the WiiU or make me enjoy more games on my WiiU.
I don’t see how it matters that the PS4 and XB1 are getting multiplats (which, by any means, certainly isn’t the only thing they’re getting this year anyway). If I’m getting a fantastic game on the PS4, I couldn’t care less about that game being available on other platforms as well. The game being on other platforms does not have any kind of influence on the enjoyment I will be getting out of it. Multiplat games are still games, and they enrich the library of a console, and give people the chance to choose from even more titles.
Both consoles being “full with shitty games that are broken” is your personal and subjective opinion. I know that I’ve been having a much better and longer time with games on my PS4 than on my WiiU. But unlike you, I’m not projecting my own experience on everyone else on this planet, and realize that others enjoy their WiiU better than their XB1 or PS4. But that doesn’t change anything about the fact that both the PS4 and XB1 have a much larger library with much more variety to choose from. And yes, many of those games are really good too. So while it’s true that quality overweighs quantity, a balance of both is certainly more preferable. In this case, I don’t see it as quantity > quality, but quantity + quality > quality.
All apart from the fact that WiiU games definitely are not always good quality, and many of them being very far from being perfect.
Any good game recommendations for the PS4?
as a Nintendo fan, i have to admit that i had a lot more fun (so far) on my PS4 than on my Wii U. i think im switching to playstation from now on and only getting nintendo consoles for The Legend of Zelda because the Wii U has really disappointed me and has been a failure in my eyes.
“Both those consoles are full with shitty games that are broken, full of patches and so forth. Quality>Quantity. Would you rather have 10 perfect games of 20 mediocre ones?”
– huh. I buy a ton of games on PS4 and XBO (and barely any on Wii U) and I’ve yet to really notice anything that broken beyond typical Fallout glitchiness. So I’m not sure what you’re speaking to there
Yes, because these 6 games are literally the only games it’s getting this year. /s
Do you know about more than those six? I don’t. And until the moment they tell us about any other games, them only having six WiiU games for 2016 won’t change for me.
Can I borrow your crystal ball, Headache. I want to see if it’ll show me the future, too.
Sadly, the new Wii U Zelda is the only one of those that I can guarantee I’ll play. I have Twilight Princess HD preordered. But probably won’t play it, seeing as how I just replayed Twilight Princess less than a year ago. I MIGHT give Star Fox a shot. But it’s been so many years since my last Star Fox game that I don’t know if I can get into it again.
Honestly, the only game there I’m willing to pay hard earned money on is Zelda Wii U. If for whatever reason it didn’t release on Wii U, I’m 98% that would be the last nail in the coffin for me. Nintendo has to figure a way to handle and get back the older fans who have wandered off due to a major lack of real change.
My poor wallet…
Well I’ll get Pokken, Starfox, and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Thats one more game than I bought on Wii U in 2015 (Splatoon and Xenoblade)
The Legends of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD – March 4 ~*Preordered against my better judgement. I’m just a sucker for Zelda games.*~
Pokkén Tournament – March 18 ~*Preordered.*~
Star Fox Zero – April 22 ~*Haven’t Decided yet. Waiting on more information like online multiplayer. I need my space battles if Star Wars Battlefront won’t give it to me.*~
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem – 2016 ~*Won’t get it if it’s getting the Fire emblem Fates treatment of censorship hidden behind the falsity of localization.*~
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games – 2016 ~*I’d rather be sick for a week than get this game.*~
The Legend of Zelda Wii U ~*Obviously going to get it since it’s Zelda. I hope it’s a sequel (not to be confused with direct sequel) to Skyward Sword & a prequel of sorts to Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, & hopefully Majora’s Mask.*~
Glad to at least hear confirmation that SMTxFE is still coming to the West. I’m looking forward to that.
