Nintendo Developer Support Reaches Out To The Creator Of Undertale

For some reason, Akinwale Lakeru – developer support at Nintendo of America – has reached out to to Toby Fox, the creator of Undertale. Could this be related to an attempt at bringing the indie hit to Nintendo platforms? There’s no way to say for sure, but that didn’t stop fans from hoping for the affirmative. Undertale was originally released in September 2015 on PC and Mac. It is a role-playing game in which you control a human who falls underground into a monster-filled world, where you are tasked with trying to find your way out.

  1. Seems interesting. I would love to play it. Though the game force closes to keep the story going it’s gonna be hard to do that on a console. Don’t know why this game is getting hate too. Yeah the fandom is a little iffy but going through them this is a masterpiece of game.

    1. could just install a script to force-close a game. say for example you’re playing infinite basement mode in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth 3DS. if you go too far down with every familiar, causing explosions everywhere with the collected powerups along the way, it will crash the game and restart the system.

    2. Was thinking the same. There’s some mechanics in the game that I can’t see working on consoles, such as the forced closing. Leaving them out wouldn’t work either, because they’re extremely important for the experience.
So while it would be great to have the game come to consoles, and therefore giving more people the chance to play it, I’m having doubts about how well it would work.

        1. I haven’t, unfortunately.
But if that’s true and they can indeed make it work on consoles while keeping the experience the exact same as it is delivered on PC, they definitely should go for it. It’s a really good game, so it would be pretty neat to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

          1. *By “if that’s true”, of course I didn’t mean to doubt your words about the mechanics used in FEZ or anything.
I’ve noticed only after posting the comment that it wasn’t the best choice of words, sorry about that. :)

          1. Are you really this stupid of a child and yo granny is a scrub and I do despise my mom in some ways but nothing to make me hate her for life but if it came down to it then I will because I don’t deal with bullshit period you child bum

          1. I have a life you ignorant scrubby bum of a child I only come on this website a few times a day and read articles that interest me and comment here and there otherwise I’m doing things that I want to do

      1. Nice assumptions you ignorant fool of a child unlike many of the idiots this generation I don’t care what people do and do not have and I have more than enough money to take care of myself which is all I need

  3. This is definitely a must for Nintendo, and I believe Toby Fox actually wanted to port his game to Nintendo consoles but had issues with the Game Maker Engine he used to make the game.

I found the game extremely fun, so seeing this on Nintendo consoles would be awesome especially if they can get it on the Nintendo NX on launch day. This would make an awesome launch title for the system.

  4. Undertale would be really suited for Nintendo platforms IMO, but don’t see how they can work around the battle system for Wii U/3DS

        1. Do you have a PS3, PS4, XB360 or XB1 controller perhaps? If so, you could use that instead. The game works much better with analog sticks anyway.

            1. Hmm, I see. :\
Another solution would be to download a program that lets you rebind your keys. I’ve seen others asking about changing the controls, and people have been suggesting programs like AutoHotKey. Basically, you can remap your keyboard with it, such as making your W, A, S and D keys take up the function of the arrow keys. But you should make sure to only run it while playing Undertale (or any other game you would like to make use of it for), as it will change the keybindings for your whole computer as long as the program is running. I’ve never used it personally though, so I can’t tell you how difficult or easy it is to utilize.
The easier (yet pricier) option would be to just buy a controller. If you play games on your PC a lot, it might be worth it, controllers are sometimes the better option for certain games, rather than a keyboard.
Well, just to give you some suggestions to help you out. :)

              1. Well my Windows computer sucks and I can barely connect to the internet, I’ve tried using several programs but nothing worked for me and no clear tutorials on how to do it existed. And I can’t play it on my Mac since Steam won’t accept any mac under 10.7. It’s kind of ironic how a game like this that breaks the fourth wall so much, it’s almost as if the game didn’t want me to play it.
I’m not in a hurry to play the game anyways so maybe I’ll get my keyboard fixed or I’ll get a PS3 by then, who knows. Thanks for the help anyways :)

                1. I see, I see. Well, then all I can do is wish you good luck on getting things to work in the end. I hope you can finish the game at some point, it’s really worth it. :)

  5. I can already imagine the Miiverse community, full of cringe and spoilers just like every other Undertale community (especially Tumblr and Reddit).
