LEGO Movie Producer Would Love To Make Nintendo Film

The producer behind the successful LEGO Movie, Vertigo Entertainment president Roy Lee, has told a panel at DICE that his dream movie project would be one based on a range of Nintendo characters. Lee said that would be his ultimate Holy Grail if he was ever offered the chance by Nintendo to produce it. Adrian Askarieh, CEO and president Prime Universe Films, also thought that Nintendo’s iconic range of IP would be perfect film fodder.

“Mine would be Nintendo. I think Zelda, Mario, and the whole universe of characters would be perfect for a Lego Movie type of [film]. I don’t have the rights to it, but I would love to. That would be my Holy Grail.”

The other panelist, Adrian Askarieh, CEO and president Prime Universe Films, agreed that Nintendo’s universe is primed for cinematic success, and Nintendo just needs to find people that can execute on it.

  2. I just wrote something about how it could be done right, but fuck that… Just keep making and put all that energy into the games. I don’t want Mario character development and backstory and if I want to go deep into Zelda (Yeah, I see how that came out) then I’d want to do it in game…

Get some people to maybe re-tool or help produce some really great stories in game form and I’d love that, no movies, no shows, just games

  3. No. Just no. Gueeh. It works for Lego. But I don’t want Nintendo to get an even bigger baby stamp than they already do. “Buuhh.. Mario and Link was to save the world together durrrr” F…FUUUUUUUCK!

  4. I don’t understand this hate. The Lego movie was hype as all hell. The animation was spot on, the content was hilarious and the way it played out in the end was ridiculously fitting. Are people expecting Nintendo to fund some super edgy Legend of Zelda movie, completely gritty and 1:1 to what the games would look like if they were for real? Because realistically, the vibe of the Lego movie would be exactly what Nintendo is going for nowadays; Family friendly. All around fun and enjoyment that fits with what the games represent and feel like, while leaving you with a feeling of desire after watching; a desire that could be filled through further playing the games. That’s exactly what the Lego Movie did for loooooads of people, and could prove useful towards sales and an overall expansion of the fanbase that they’re already craving.

Just seems stupid to hate on something that could easily pan out to be a very good thing.

  6. I want a Nintendo movie that doesn’t suck. Video games are so great and addicting. And they emerse the player in ways that no other form of entertainment can do. It’s just sad that pretty much every video game based movie can’t be equally as good. Like the Super Mario Bros. Movie. When I watch that, it makes me wonder…”Did the producers ever even PLAY a Super Mario Bros. Game”? It was so unbelievably unfaithful to the games. It was an abomination. Why were the goomas giants with shrunken heads? Why was Yoshi too small to ride? Why Daisy instead of Peach? Why Dennis Hopper as Bowser? And why John Leguizamo as ANYONE? WHY? I’ve wanted a good Mario movie ever since that one. I only hope that there’s never a Zelda movie as horrible as the Super Mario Bros. Movie was. Bottom line: STAY FAITHFUL TO THE GAMES IN EVERY WAY!

  7. Its the same issue as with creating half life 3. If nintendo messes up making a movie that people will have extremely high expectations for then that would essentially damage their entire credibility and status more than it could earn them if it turned out well.

  8. Miyamoto would probably shake is head “no”, because Mario would actually have more dialog for once. And the player wouldn’t be able to play through random stages, collecting coins and power-ups.

~*If done right, movies based on Nintendo games would be fucking great to watch. As much as I enjoy & love Super Mario Bros The Movie, it wasn’t faithful to the video games in the slightest. For one, Yoshi was to fucking small for the Mario Bros to ride. Mario would have squashed the poor guy. For two, the Goombas were too damn big. For three, the Bob-omb was a mindless wind up toy when in the games they are fucking intelligent creatures that love to blow themselves up. For four, Big Bertha wasn’t even a fish. For five, the Mario Bros weren’t naturally, or unnaturally, gifted jumpers but needed some kind of rocket boots to do it. I could go on but I think most of us here already know exactly what the movie did wrong.*~
