Satoru Iwata was among the individuals who were recognized during last night’s DICE Awards. The late Nintendo president – who passed away in 2015 due to a bile duct growth – was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award that was accepted by Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime, who delivered a brief speech about Iwata’s contribution to the gaming industry. You can read an excerpt from Fils-Aime’s heartfelt tribute to Iwata below:
“On behalf of Mr. Iwata’s family and all of Nintendo, thank you for this lifetime achievement award. Mr. Iwata has been gone for some time but I still think about him almost every day.”

Would it be offensive if Nintendo made an Iwata amiibo (perhaps a gold one) even though the actual intention was to honor him?
Nah, it wouldn’t be disrespectful in my opinion. Although I’m not sure how that honor’s him. Besides I would think first of how his family would feel about it.
Yah, I was including his family too. Perhaps it’s too early, and I’m not sure how exactly the Japanese deal with death/grievance/honor.
Mm, yeah I agree. I’m sure they don’t handle it much more different than we do. People are people and losing one you love is Never easy. It’s worth a look into for sure.
It should be him (Mii) in his ‘Directly’ Pose with his hands on either side from his face like he would usually do.
i think they should make an iwata amiibo, both regular and gold for his family and his family alone.
I don’t think it would be offensive. Get permission from family of course. I really think he it was to happen, donate a percentage to a good charity!
I don’t see that as disrespectful as a matter of fact I think it’d be a great way to remember him!
Great!
Hard to believe it’s been like 3/4 of a year now…I’ve thought of him more then I used to thats for sure…R.I.P once more Iwata and congrats on the award.
