We learnt today that Pokemon Sun and Moon are heading to the Nintendo 3DS this holiday season, but that’s quite a way away. Tomorrow you will be able to replay Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. To celebrate this here’s over an hours worth of footage of Pokemon Yellow running on the Nintendo 3DS. You can also check out some footage of the Japanese Pokemon Green which is supposedly Pokemon Blue here in the west.

Umm… I don’t think that’s actually true.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that our Red and Blue were improved versions of the original Red and Green, featuring better spritework, less bugs and the like. Green never came out of Japan, Blue is not a localized Green.
Pretty sure you are correct. I’m sure someone can pin point that out.
Sorry, I assumed it was Pokemon Blue after reading an article on IGN. Probably a mistake!

In Japan there were Red and Green which we never actually got outside of Japan. Then about a year later Japan got Blue which was an updated Red and Green. They later took the updated Japanese Blue and made the Red and Blue that were released everywhere else.
I see. So we actually got a double version of a third version, after all, and then a fourth version.

Our pokemon red is japan’s blue with the pokemon found in japan’s red version and our blue is japan’s blue also but with pokemon found in japan’s green version.
Japan’s green and red have different sprites and a different cerulean cave maze and japan’s green i believe has different pokedex entries.
Japan’s blue though has different found pokemon and different in game trades that neither the american red or blue have.
