TIME conducted a short interview with Reggie Fils-Aimé about Miitomo. My Nintendo was also touched upon, however it was mostly addressed by Reggie in connection with Miitomo. This is because, according to Reggie, the two will launch at the same time and My Nintendo will offer Miitomo benefits to users. Miitomo is also the “first of five apps” that Reggie said Nintendo will release “before the end of March 2017”. As for Miitomo’s release, it won’t launch in the United States until the end of this month. As of today, Miitomo is available in Japan.
One highlight of the interview was that Reggie and Nintendo hope that Miitomo will get people “reengaged with Nintendo”.
We know that many people have established habits with other social apps and services. We want to do something different. Maybe the best way to consider this is looking at your Mii as an intermediary. For example, if you’re on the phone talking to a friend, and that friend says of a mutual friend, ‘Hey, you’ll never guess what Chris told me.’ That person on the other end of the phone is your Mii. He’s working for you.
We expect people’s experience with Miitomo to be a rewarding one in its own right. But at the same time, it’s also a way to have them engage—or reengage—with Nintendo. The way they get involved with My Nintendo will reward them both figuratively and literally down the road. So Miitomo gets people involved with their friends. And one of those friends is Nintendo.
Thanks, yoshito

Wait one sec, Donnie? From TSSZ? You’re an MNN reporter now? Wow, congrats man!
Yeah, he’s been blogging with us for a while and is part of the team :)
Good luck with that Reggie, I know it’s your job to say that, but if you truly believe it will…well, your delusional. People might catch onto Miitomo but not for more then a month before they uninstall it and move onto some other phone crap. People associate Nintendo with games, not phone apps. That wont ever change.
you’re*, your = possession and you’re is just a shortened ‘you are’. It’s not that hard…

This is the internet, spelling, grammar and punctuation go out the window. And not that you should care, but a number of millenia ago every word was over 300 characters long, even the word for “cheese” was over 300 characters long. So how about you sit down and hush up.
Exactly this shut is dumb I don’t care one bit for it only games
if this is what re-engaging with nintendo is like, i wouldn’t want to be in re-engagers pants
-||Except most people, specially your Elite Warriors equate Nintendo with games, not social nonsense||-
Precisely.
“So Miitomo gets people involved with their friends. And one of those friends is Nintendo.”
This makes me think that Nintendo is the new Tom and Miitomo is the new Myspace lololololol
If that’s the case, say goodbye to Nintendo haha. Who will be Facebook in that scenario to come and push them out of the picture?
A Neo Geo/Snk revival would be quite interesting lol
Maybe even a Jaguar or Atari revival?
Atari would be kind of amazing tbh
I never got to play it myself.
lol I forgot about Tom xD
and I’m sure he’s forgotten about us ^^
And Nintendo keeps selling the casual image — this has been an obsession, to be honest.
To reengage with Nintendo through a casual app for smartphones is like to invite the wrong demography to take the wrong path to go to the right place.
Yeah Nintendo has been retarded for decades now
oh dear oh dear Mr fils-Aimé, I really hope it is not what you really think when you say: “people will re-engage”.
I don’t think I will be far off to say that some Nintendo team may have read My Nintendo News comments. If that the case they should have done a customer analysis and send it back to Shibata-san, Mr fils-Aime and their respective marketing people as well as Kimishima-san .
I think like many company Nintendo don’t want to hear about customers dissatisfaction. Hence why they come up with this kind of PR statement.
-||If one of High Command’s representatives really read the comments in this base, then they would know the war monge- I mean aggressive negotiations I would conduct to expand the Empire||-
read that statement again and I really can’t believe it, hence why I comment twice on it. How far off he is from the reality!!! Really mate, if you think that miitomo thing going to get your customers back then you are going to be shock…. read it 3 times and I believe Nintendo is like a government which is lock in an ivory tower and don’t hear the crowd complains… man…. I going to play darksiders 2 on PC now….
Exactly Nintendo is delusional
do you guys not realize how much this new generation of kids are into phone app stuff? I think they’ll eat this up tbh
People don’t realize that these companies have to do a great deal of long term thinking. Nintendo gets people young and they love them for life.
“For example, if you’re on the phone talking to a friend, and that friend says of a mutual friend, ‘Hey, you’ll never guess what Chris told me.’ That person on the other end of the phone is your Mii. He’s working for you.”
Um… I… I don’t ge… WHAAAAAT!?! What the hell does that even mean? I’m looking at it from every angle and I just can’t get what that’s supposed to mean.
Oh, Reggie, you gotta go…
basically your Mii will become “that friend” who goes around spreading gossip amongst your circle
It was actually a pretty clever way to explain Miitomo to the casual crowd. I think reading this and trying it for themselves are the only way people who don’t closely follow Nintendo are going to understand what “Miitomo” is and why anyone would care to play it.
I don’t think a stupid little smartphone app is going to show people the true charm of Nintendo games… Maybe with kids and a good portion of “casual” gamers, I guess. Smartphone games, like that bullshit candycrush garbage, are like the little microscopic organisms that get sucked up by whales lol. There’s tons of them, they have nothing interesting about them, and they come and go with absolutely no substantial impact. I don’t want Nintendo hanging with garbage like that, but at least it might get the attention of kids, I guess… >_>
have you ever played tomodochi life though? that game definitely has a very strange Nintendo charm to it lol
People are being to harsh. This is just taking a miis and the nintendo gaming experience to the mobile phone market and is just a first step. There will be rewards tied into, game purchases and integration with the other apps released within the year. Pump the brakes on the negativity… Well do what you want but i think it us unwarranted at this point
Reggie and Nintendo yet again don’t have their priorities straight. There is absolutely no chance I will be returning to Nintendo for this bullshit. You want my cold hard cash again? Gimme a non-gimmicky system with quality 1st party games and a normal controller. HD and a solid online infrastructure. BOOM. That wasn’t too hard, was it?
Yup they are shit and that is final
I wonder if they’re aware they’re using the wrong IP for that. Who am I kidding. It’s Nintendo, of course not.
Ha ha yup its Nintendo they never learn anything

Not so sound antisocial, but if I can use the My Nintendo account services without having anything to do with Miitomo I’m game. I wouldn’t have time to mess with it so often, besides the fact I’m more of a real face to face social person. It’s gotta be real bro.
Ok. I’m confused.
So… What is this app again, and what does it have to do with engaging anything? :)
-||Engaging with the little people||-
I mean… We had swapnote/ letterbox, we had miiverse… Everytime they try to build a social platform, they either kill it or gimp it to make it’s social functions so impractical… If this is another social attempt by Nintendo, they mayaswell not bother. They’ll just get people excited and then the first time a creeper uses it, it will get canceled or have it’s social features gutted.
I want to say if but we all know it’s a question of when. After Bayonetta 2 released, they’ve gone overboard with trying to be family friendly. Bravely Second is still in question, but I won’t be surprised if they changed it to where those side quests have a good ending regardless of your choice for the little kiddies even though it’s a game rated T for Teen and, if you haven’t played Bravely Default & went with the true ending yet then go no further, even though the game before it had it’s true ending where entire universes were destroyed.
Well, if he wants to connect with the public he could start by not ignoring everyone on Twitter.
Been trying the app myself. It’s pretty good so far, much better than I anticipated.
Of course he hopes it “reengages” some people with Nintendo. Gotta get all of those casuals that left after the Wii gen back. Right, Nintendo!? That’s probably the ONLY reason they went into mobile gaming so they can lure back those people. Yes. Come back so you can buy the trash that is Federation Farce, amiibo Festi-Board Game, Zip Lash, Color Trash (or was it Splash?) & Ultra Trash, so Nintendo can pretend those games sold well because the “fans” bought those games & not because of a bunch of ignorant casuals that wouldn’t know the real deal of a franchise from a fake. After all, only casuals would be the kinds of suckers to buy games that aren’t even true representations of their franchises (Federation Force, amiibo Festival, Zip Lash, Color Splash) or are barebone releases (Ultra Smash).
When we get true representations of Metroid & Animal Crossing, then I’ll forgive the existence of Force & Festival as I will pretend they don’t exist. I wish I could say the same for Chibi-Robo but Nintendo pretty much gave us the middle finger with that one by letting the success of a spin-off decide the fate of the franchise. Fuck you for that one, NintenD’OH! *facepalm*! As for Color splash, that one is unforgivable because, like Sticker Star, it’s being treated as a main entry in the Paper Mario franchise. Paper Mario as a true RPG is dead, guys. Time to just let it die & move on to Mario & Luigi which is the poor man’s Paper Mario. As for Mario Tennis, I don’t really play that sub-franchise anyway. lol
What is Ultra Smash?
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. It’s sad when an older game has more content than a newer game. Hence the barebones term.
oh lol I was confused and thought you were referring to smash4 with all DLC as Ultras Smash, I forgot the mario tennis wii u game even existed lolololololol
Silly. >.<
Hm. I'm surprised an angry Nintendo fan hasn't attacked my comment yet. Maybe the ones viewing this article have accepted the fact it's my personal opinion. *shrug* Whatever. I got enough attacks on my other comments, anyway. My nerves might be shot, but, God damn, I'm having fun! :D
I think we’re striking a balance between the Nintendo Is Perfect, the Nintendo Fans who are increasingly disappointed, the Nintendo fans who are fed up, but still want Nintendo to come back to it’s senses, the Nintendo fans who are ~thisclose~ to telling Nintendo to go fuck themselves and leave entirely, and the trolls.
Still quite a bit of brawling in the comments, but it’s far better than it was 6mths to a year ago!
Maybe the NX will be a big turn around for Nintendo. If not, oh well. Nintendo, it was fun for the last 30 years while it lasted, so I wish you luck in mobile gaming as you become irrelevant like Konami is sure to be once those morons go all in with mobile. When that time comes, I will truly be done with Nintendo & they can die in a ditch for all I care.
Dear Nintendo: If you want to have friends, be a friend.
