It Doesn’t Sound As Though Danny DeVito Will Voice Detective Pikachu

When Detective Pikachu for the Nintendo 3DS was unveiled many fans automatically assumed that Danny DeVito would be the perfect voice actor for a western release of the game. Online publication Destructoid approached the actor at an event in LA yesterday and got the following response when they asked him whether he was contemplating the role.

“No. I don’t know what you’re talking about” before asking his fellow It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia cast members, “What the f**k is Pokémon?”

  1. I mean, he did a video with One Direction so it’s not like he’s behind the times. If he was approached by Nintendo to do it then he might have. I don’t think Nintendo will after this though. I don’t see why people wanted him anyways, I don’t see that voice fitting Pikachu. I love DeVito but I don’t see it as a fit.

    1. yeah he has kids lol, he’s been married to Rhea Perlman forever, i think he was just fucking with em cause he’s goddamn hilarious, i love Danny Devito lol <3

      1. Oh I honestly didn’t know that! I don’t watch a lot of television, as in when the Office ended so did my need for television. Yeah, knowing he has kids, I would assume he’s seen one. But it is funny he said that!

      1. Well, I personally wouldn’t call them freaks (but I guess to each their own). I mean, there must have been something about the man that they liked to the point where they thought that Detective Pikachu would work.

Well, in any case, I don’t think Nintendo would be willing to do it. And even if they did want him to do it, seeing how he answered the question makes me feel like his answer might be a bit negative.

          1. I watched the trailer, but it wasn’t really enough for me to think that he would be perfect for the voice. But then again, part of it is that I didn’t think he would want to do it anyway (and as I said, his reaction to the question might suggest that he may ultimately not want to).

    1. Personally I liked the idea. I never actually expected it to happen, but I think it would be hilarious to see a pikachu running around with Danny DeVito’s voice. It would be so out of place, it would just work.

    1. i enjoy watching ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ but he doing the voice of detective pikachu doesnt seem right, Peter Cullen fits the role as i previously said (i couldn’t remember the name but now i do)

  2. He probably isn’t/won’t, but he WAS asked on April Fool’s Day about it so it’s still not entirely out. He probably knows what Pokémon is though, but maybe not.

  3. I can live without Danny Devito. Maybe we can get a convincing soundalike.

But if we get a campy female voice or a little kid voice for this particular Pikachu, I will be severely disgusted and possibly deterred from getting this game. Just listen to those dub voices from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon specials. That’s what I dread.

  4. xD That’s Danny DeVito for ya! I’m sure he knows what Pokemon is. He was just trying to be funny.

  5. I’m indifferent about DeVito being the voice of a crime-solving Pikachu. Honestly, this game does not have my attention, but I will understand any and all disapproval of a childish voice for Detective Pikachu.

If Bob Hoskins were still alive, I might wish to hear him voice DP after he clearly had fun doing Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

    1. I need to get that on blu-ray or Sony digital! That movie has one of Bob Hoskins & Christopher Lloyd’s best roles!

        1. The acting in that movie was the best thing about it, honestly. If the acting was terrible, I wouldn’t have been able to sit through the movie & enjoy it because of how crappy of a movie representation of the Super Mario Bros games it was.
