NPD: Here’s The Best-Selling Games In April 2016

It’s that time of the month again as the sales data from the US has come in courtesy of the NPD Group. It’s been a busy month for software with a number of notable new releases including Star Fox Zero on the Wii U. Talking of Star Fox, the latest game arrived in at number ten on the all-formats chart which is a good achievement. Here’s the best-selling software for the month of April.

  1. Dark Souls III (PS4, Xbox One)
  2. Ratchet & Clank (PS4)
  3. MLB 16: The Show (PS4, PS3)
  4. Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  5. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  6. Minecraft (Xbox One, 360, PS4, PS3)
  7. Quantum Break (Xbox One)
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
  9. NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
  10. Star Fox: Zero (Wii U)
  • Game sales couldn’t keep up with Mortal Kombat X last year, which pretty much carried the industry itself.
  • “Ratchet & Clank had the best launch of any game in the Ratchet & Clank franchise when adjusting for the number of days sold in the data month, with sales recapturing success not seen for the franchise since the height of the PlayStation 2 era,” said Callahan.
  • “The launch of Dark Souls III marked the strongest launch in the franchise’s history,” said Callahan. “Sales for Dark Souls III nearly doubled that of its predecessor, Dark Souls II, when adjusted for days in the market.”
  • “[By individual SKUs], Star Fox Zero for the Wii U was No. 5, while the Japanese role-playing game Bravely Second was No. 9. It’s worth noting that this is different from the NPD’s overall top 10, which combines platforms and things like special editions for a game’s sales.”

  1. Wow. Number 5 for individual sdks, wow. That’s good, it deserves about that, its not the best game ever but its still a great game. I gave it a 8.5/10 on my blog WhatAboutNintendo.

  2. I guess these are coming from all those who thought that Polygon is a stupid site and they wanted to prove them wrong?

In any case, I haven’t touched my copy yet. But those of you who frequent this site and see my comments would already have guessed by now.

Naw. Just kidding: I played it. It’s pretty good, and while, yes, the controls do take time to master, you get used to it after a while.

    1. I have it, and I beat the game in less than a day (spent time doing some extra missions and stuff, or it would have been a mere 3 or 4 hours). I personally hate the controls. But as Carlos Pando said, I don’t think they are going to patch a standard control scheme. Which absolutely sucks. As I said, I hate the controls. Some people like them. Me personally, I tried and tried, and just could not get over how much I hate them.

  4. Hm. Instead of playing the Resident Evil games after I finish with the Assassin’s Creed games, maybe I should play Grand Theft Auto V instead.

  5. I fully expect Star Fox Zero to have a huge decrease in sales as the weeks continue due to word of mouth and general disinterest in the dying console. The game looks like garbage, so it’s not really surprising that it’s underperforming.
