This June, 4J Studios, the developers behind the console versions of Minecraft, will be releasing a free update that will introduce the first of a series of mini-games set to be released for the title.
The first mini-game is named ‘Battle’, which will be an eight-player death match in a ‘Hunger Games’ style, where players will have to battle to the death until only one person is left standing. Players who are killed during the battle will return as a bat who can fly around above the other players as they continue to fight to the death. The players who have been reincarnated as a bat will be able to swoop into the faces of other players and press buttons to squeak to attempt to distract them.
The developers where inspired by this idea after observing what the Minecraft community were doing, as this style of playing will be familiar to PC Minecraft users as there are numerous fan-made mini-games on this platform.
“We had a plan at the beginning, when we started the 360 version, that we would look at what the community were doing and add some significant additions to the gameplay,” says Paddy Burns, director of 4J Studios. “Things were pretty busy for while, so it’s only been in the last year that we’ve built it all.
“Where we are in the lifecycle of the game, we felt it was good time to add different ways to play. We looked at what was happening on the PC at the mods people were making, and thought can we do something like that?”
The update will include 3 maps created by the developers, one map has a ‘pirate cove’ theme, one map has lava falls and rocky areas, and the final map is a stone temple with narrow walkways and staircases.
This update will be available for all Wii U, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 users, and shortly after the release there will be add on content and additional maps available to purchase.

Sounds
AWESOME!
I know right? Especially if you have tons of friends to play this mode with, the more people the better!
What about PS Vita?! That is the same version as PS3, so hopefully that is included under the listed PS3?
Doubtful. That’s like the black sheep version. I got a Vita TV for my sibling just for this game, but I’m glad we now have the U version.
The Ps Vita version and the PS3 version are the exact same version. They are allowed to play online with one another, so in order for that to continue, they must recieve the same update.
Looks like I preordered the Wii U version just in time. First the Mario skin pack, now this?
And THAT is how you stay relevant. These guys are geniuses.
Will you be able to play these mini-games on your own maps, or do you have to play them on the new maps they are releasing?
