A Third Party Pokemon Go “Chat” App Has Been Created

The Pokemon GO Beta testing is now underway in North America, and it seems that this has sparked an idea for third party developer Tethr to create an app to accompany it named “Chat for Pokemon Go – Go Chat”.

The app is designed to allow players within a certain vicinity to chat with each other to share tips and initiate trades, something the Pokemon GO app doesn’t currently include. The app will only allow players to interact with people in their area, and allows them to message and direct message each other.

In theory, this will be a good app to use alongside Pokemon GO if you want to connect with other trainers in your area, but it also may have issues with people not using it for its intended purpose. This could be a reason that this type of feature has been excluded from the original app itself.

If you’d like to check it out, you can find it over on the Google Play Store.

  1. I’m going to get jumped IRL for my Pokemon? Not sure what bad could come from this.
I think Ingress had chat for your whole faction. That’s enough I think as long as you can narrow the area.

  2. This is a great idea, but knowing Nintendo and the Pokemon Company International, they’ll most likely take it down. There was a pretty good free unofficial Pokedex app for android that I used frequently, but it and other similar apps were forced to be taken down when Pokémon released their $14.99 Pokedex Pro app.

Because of this, I’m kind of indecisive about downloading it.

    1. *Indecisive about downloading this Pokemon Go chat app because I’m afraid that it’ll be taken down when I begin to rely on it.

Plus, I don’t think that there are many people in my area that are also beta testers. However, I can see this being very helpful once the game is officially released. Hopefully it won’t be taken down by then.

        1. Yeah, but knowing them, they could still find a way to take it down.

But I’m going to give your app a try. I can see it being really helpful now and when the game officially releases.

Thanks for putting forth the effort and time in making an app like this.

I wish you the best of luck and am look forward to see how it develops.

  3. Considering the Pokemon Go in development and how an app like this might jeopardize sales (not to mention making it without GF and Nintendo’s permission) they’d be justified in taking this down.

  4. Chat will definitely be integrated into the end Pokemon Go game. There is no point in having a real-world game without a way to communicate with other real-world players inside it.
