Inafune: Launch Version Of Mighty No.9 ‘Is Better Than Nothing’

Mighty No.9 is now available for purchase and some of you may have seen that the reviews for the long-awaited game have been less than stellar. The game has an average review score of 60 percent on online review aggregation site Metacritic. Interestingly, the producer behind the game Keiji Inafune says that it is simply better than nothing.

“It’s better than nothing”. That’s the assessment of Keiji Inafune following the damning critical reception of his new platformer Mighty No.9.

“The reality is they put everything into making this game,” Inafune said, as translated by Comcept’s Ben Judd, Vice reports. “They didn’t try to microtransaction it out, they didn’t try to DLC it out for extra money. They put it all in.

“So, for now, this is what you see and what you get, for the Mighty No. 9 world. But, again, we can hope that if things go well, there’ll be sequels. Because I’ll tell you what, I’m not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the day, even if it’s not perfect, it’s better than nothing. At least, that’s my opinion.”

    1. HOLY SHIT! IS HE FUCKING SERIOUS? Lol. Dude, you asked 4 times and received 5.5 million plus to make this game. You have 4 years to make this game. You microtranscation kick-starter, asking for more money for the DLC, and despite the game being 10 dollars, it’s 30 if you actually want the DLC. Am I missing something here, Inafune? Capcom are laughing and probably saying “this idiot failed at his own creation, we still have the rights, and we will still not make a mega man game”. Now I see why.

  1. You wanted nearly one million dollars for this game to be created and what people end up getting is a game that’s better than nothing?

  2. I do believe he got $1M but the development cost $250K the rest he used it for the marchandising and put some in his pocket.

Giving how ugly the game is and it seems from what I saw the gameplay does not look well though (despite his 20 years experience) I don’t think he put everything in the game.

  3. Why do get the feeling Flynn is the only person who can give Mega Man quality. He actually gives Mega Man proper world building.

These two trailers (plus the one for the animated series) treat Mighty No. 9 like a complete joke. And that’s not going into the 2017 Mega Man cartoon.

But here’s the kicker, as of writing this comment, I haven’t seen a physical copy of the game yet, let alone played it. And I want to like this game. I also want Mighty No. 9 to have a chance in future SSB games.

    1. He is not SSB worthy. With how bad the game is he will be lucky if he even gets a trophy in a future SSB title. 3rd party characters have to first be successful in order to be considered for SSB, if Mighty Number 9 doesn’t sell enough copies on the Nintendo consoles then there goes his chance. Many people wanted to like the game and hoped the trailers were just awful but the gameplay was amazing BUT thats not the case as most people are very disappointed with the gameplay and how easy it is (especially since they gave you the best power in the game at the start).

  4. Sounds like an excuse to continue making shitty games. He’s basically saying as long as people keep buying it he will keep making it despite the quality of the game. This is a business mentality and he clearly doesn’t care about anything else. It’s already been proven he is more into the money than he is passionate about it. It’s just shameful to see that he pretended to care now this comment clearly shows disregard for any fans he has left

  5. You know what this game almost reminds me of? Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts ‘N’ Bolts… Except Mighty No. 9 is undoubtably bad whether you look at it as a spiritual successor or not.

    1. How? Nuts ‘N’ Bolts would have been a fine game if it didn’t have Banjo-Kazooie forced into it; no one would have batted an eye if it featured original characters.

This just looks like it would be bad all around no matter how many paint jobs it gets.

      1. Well, that is kind of what I just said. Nuts ‘N’ Bolts is a pretty good game if you ignore the fact that it’s not a real Banjo game. This game, however, is bad whether it’s trying to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man or not.

  6. I cant believe the audacity of this clown. -_-

I guess kamiya was right, this man isnt a creator. This is actually making reconsider picking up ReCore now.

  7. Huge fan of the Mega Man series beating all the Classic games, Mega Man Zero Games, and 1st four Mega Man X Games. Might Number 9 is horrible! Inafune stole millions of dollars from people across the globe :(

  8. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

    Ha ha ha ha.

    Ha ha ha.

    Ha ha.

    Ha…

… I’m not even mad at this point. I spent a lot of money backing this project. If what he says is true (since the translator can always mess of the translation), then…

… well, whatever. At least I have the game and the DLC.

I won’t be buying the 3DS version (used enough of my money already).

  9. “They didn’t try to microtransaction it out, they didn’t try to DLC it out for extra money”

Isn’t there already DLC on Steam though? LMAO

  10. I’m glad I didn’t buy this yet. I played the Kickstarter demo and it overheated my computer after five minutes. I’ve had no problems before or after so it’s most certainly that game. I was impressed by that but it sounds like they rushed to get it out and screwed it up. They’ve had quite a while to work on this game. Side-scrollers can’t take all that long to develop compared to a 3D title with more space. It’s honestly unacceptable to release a half-assed product and to say “it’s better than nothing” is sort of a slap in the face to anyone that donated to the Kickstarter. I’m gonna take a look at the reviews and see what’s up with it.

  11. I’m a little disappointed to see articles like this that aren’t corrected.

These comments were Ben Judd’s. Whatever you think of the opinion expressed, it was not Inafune who said it. Judd wasn’t translating here, he was pitching in with his own perspective on the situation.

  12. This is NOT a Megaman Spiritual successor, looks like a 5 millions Generic Gameloft shity Android game. Imafune is NOT a game developer, is a fucking BUSSINES MEN, he wants money from stupids anime fans.

  13. Better than nothing? May this guy never get into the food business. He’ll be feeding people hamburgers infected with mad cow disease and say “but it’s better than nothing, right?” Fuck you, assbutt!
