While Pokemon GO has been a resounding success for both Niantic and Nintendo it would appear as though the majority of the money from purchases in the game are going to both Google and Apple. Apple and Google collect a third of the sales that happen on their app stores so any micro transactions you purchase will go to the vendors. Various analysts have estimated that out of $100 spent on Pokemon Go, Google and Apple take 30 percent, then 30 percent of revenue goes to the game developer Niantic, another 30% will go to the Pokemon franchise and about 10% is left for Nintendo.
Nintendo Earning Less From Pokemon GO Than Google And Apple

because Google and Apple are greedy
That’s not greed. That’s just an industry standard. I bet that if you were to make a game on the Wii U, PS4, or Xbox One, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft would deal with the same 70/30 split that Google and Apple are making.
That’s unfair
What’s wrong with this? The Pokemon Company is getting more than Nintendo, that’s completely fine and ethical. Nothing upsetting here
INCORRECT MATH… apple 30% iOS 70% left over Google 30% Android 70% left over. that would make Nintendo’s take 40%
No, the math is correct. Google/Apple takes 30%, Niantic earns 30%, the Pokémon Company earns 30%, and Nintendo gets the remaining 10%.
Check your math, bud.
Apple/Google – 30%
Niantic – 30%
The Pokemon Company – 30%
Nintendo – 10%
This is misleading–Nintendo owns a huge chunk of the Pokemon Co.
Nintendo owns a 1/3 share of TPC.
And Gamefreak owns another 1/3.
Nintendo owns about 1/2 of Gamefreak if the source is correct.
Game Freak is a separate entity, they’re independent from Nintendo. It’s just that everything they’ve developed has been for Nintendo systems.
Read somewhere Nintendo owns shares in the company.
They can have independent administration even if Nintendo owns shares.
Exactly.
Something about this reads off as fishy as Magikarp.
that is unfair
Well, the game is not made by Nintendo, is not using Nintendo property, and is not on a Nintendo console. Seems reasonable to me. As said above, though, this is a bit misleading, seeing as Nintendo owns part of the Pokémon Company.
Nintendo OWNS pokemon. THE POKEMON COMPANY was made between Nintendo, Creature and GF as a side arm to oversee all branches of pokemon without any of the mentioning companies having to worry too much about the management of hte Anime, card game, toys etc.
Saying: Mone that goes to Pokemon Company is money that Nintendo looses is retarded
The Pokémon Company owns the legal rights to all things Pokémon. The Pokémon Company shares is split between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures.
The Pokémon Company’s pure reason for existence is to manage the marketing and advertising of Pokémon. Nintendo actually owns the name “Pokémon” as well as all Pokémon names. They actually have the legal burden of Pokémon (if someone wants to sue anything Pokémon related, they take it up to Nintendo).
In fact, the website says (http://www.pokemon.com/us/legal/): “Pokémon, Pokémon character names, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS, Wii, Wii U, and Wiiware are trademarks of Nintendo.”
Though, it’s very easy to assume that The Pokémon Company owns Pokémon and not Nintendo, since a lot of what they do is usually outside of what Nintendo does (example: they’ve made mobile apps before Nintendo even considered it and started making apps themselves).
Oh, thanks for the clarification!
The Pokémon Company owns the legal rights to all things Pokémon. The Pokémon Company shares is split between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. So, Nintendo only partly own the Pokémon Company. And I can’t recall having said “Mone that goes to Pokemon Company is money that Nintendo looses”
It isn’t that unfair. Google and Apple provide server space for the app to be downloaded from. They also provide advertising on their stores and the software development kits (SDKs) used in developing the app.
Niantic and The Pokemon Company developed the app, so their 30% for a total of 60% makes sense. I’m not sure what role Nintendo really had, except maybe overseeing the app’s development and giving permission for their IP to be used. Nintendo also owns a large chunk of The Pokemon Company.
Sounds similar to what nintendo is doing to youtubers who show footage of nintendo games, if this isn’t karma I don’t know what is lol:D
You mean this youtubers?

I get the notion that this will deter Nintendo from fully focusing just on mobile, I think they would want to keep a larger portion for themselves without Google and Apple taking a piece for doing pretty much nothing.
Providing server space is actually doing something and costs a lot of money to keep running. So Google and Apple deserve their shares as some of that money goes to keeping the servers for Pokemon GO up and running.
||Irrelevant, the main objective is to end the existence of the Xbots…||
And 10 percent of a gaZILLION is what? Yeah, exactly. Nintendo will be just fine…
Nintendo already banked 7 Billions with just the stocsk jump. anything else is pocket change
Nintendo takes 30% of everything on their platforms; I think that’s just how it works.
Yep. The 70/30 split is pretty much an industry standard at this point, and it’s been like that for years.
10% sounds about right for Nintendo. Not like they deserve any more than that, anyway.
