With the news of Pokémon getting a live action film, Capcom seems to be following suit. During their presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, Monster Hunter’s producer announced they are working with Hollywood to develop a Monster Hunter movie. Unlike the upcoming anime, it is said to be an adaptation of the main series of games. While no other details were given, this is certainly exciting news for fans of the franchise.

Least with this, they don’t have to pull what Jurassic World did with cross genetically breeding some super dinosaur. Although, if Michael Crichton was still alive & was going to continue Jurassic Park, I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually did what Jurassic World did since Jurassic Park was always meant to be a lesson of “just because we can do it, doesn’t mean we should.”

no, most movies in general suck. The market is overly saturated, they are poorly written and more often than not, directed even worse. Not all, just most. And it is so bad that terrible or weak to average films are glorified despite their short comings, because all the media companies are large conglomerates and therefore, can’t have one outlet speaking poorly about a sister company’s production… not to mention, success of a star’s or director’s next film for another company hinges on the success of the former and therefore they like to keep things on the up and up. Sometimes movies bomb so bad there is no way to save it, but they go to bluray/streaming so fast now (unless the movie is actually good or even great, but still the factory usually runs this way despite that fact) that there is nothing special or exclusive about these films and they are forgotten as soon as a new film draws people’s attention. Anyway, I love movies, most are just not worth the time and certainly not the money pumped into them
I would agree that most movies are mediocre at best, but to say that most movies suck? I disagree. I consider a movie to suck when it’s not possible to find any entertainment in it. Most of the movies I’ve seen come out are worth at least one viewing. We’ve even had a few good ones recently. Great movies though, that’s a different story. I’d say we’ve only had 1 or 2 great movies at most since the early 2000s.
I do agree about movies being over glorified though. Take the new Star Wars movie for example. It was good, but it’s not the great, amazing, spectacular movie that everyone made it out to be. It’s probably 3rd or 4th on my list of Star Wars movies.
There have been plenty of great films since 2000, of course not all are as popular as some of the more mediocre ones, and to me, the Star Wars film we got was mediocre, but only good because of the garbage we are accustomed to. I have a much more malignant view of it, but most movies are not worth watching in my opinion and I will routinely turn a movie off or walk out of the theater at the first sign of bullshit. Star Trek the latest for me to walk out, Sisters the latest to get the turn off. I abstain from most.
Really? I could understand turning a movie off at home, but I’ve never walked out of a theatre, and I’ve seen some terrible movies. I’d rather get what I paid for. To each, his own though.
I didn’t pay to be treated like a five year old, which, if I were a kid some of these movies would be just fine, but I am not so I will walk out. As you say, to each their own

I’m kind of a fan of really bad movies so it takes a lot for me to turn any movie off. The only one I can think of that I actually turned off and didn’t finish was House of the Dead lol
so you basically see movies as all art. I liked the newest star trek (like many others do) and Im fine that you didnt like it but you walk out the moment you see something you dont like, most people just count it as a negative and give the movie another chance and just dont walk out. . calm down have fun with the movie. not all movies have to be citizen cane.
I gave it a fighting chance, about 2/3 of the movie or so. Enjoyed the first one immensely and thought the second was very good (outside some of the forced tears and melodrama) but this last one, I mean, it was incredibly bad… to me, anyway.
I don’t see films as all art at all, but I simply think most films are unwatchable. I love movies, and I have a fine time taking some for what they are, but often they screw up a great idea or character and it becomes a mockery that this is the “entertainment” we are subjected to and which gets not only praise, but makes the rich, richer.

I really, really hope they do this game justice. I think following the story from MH4 would be best, the hunter that gets adopted by the flying caravan.
Sadly, n8luinski is generally correct with Video game adaptations, although, I did enjoy the Resident evil movies, even if they are kinda ridiculous. XD
The only reason the Resident Evil movies are good or bearable is because Paul WS Anderson & Milla Jovovich are fans of the games. Sure the movies aren’t exactly true to the source material but they are doing their best. Not to mention they don’t want to follow the games exactly because then there wouldn’t be any surprises in the movies. For instance, Barry would not have been killed, shocking everyone that sees the movie without knowing who dies, in RE5 if they had followed the games since Barry is still very much alive… and mostly retired from action.
||They are doing their best in their own way but in no way do the movies have anything in common with the essence of Resident Evil just like the FF virus has nothing of Metroid’s essence…||

I don’t disagree, but I don’t think Bay was the main problem with Bayformers, he does action and Mass destruction well, and the transformers were awesome, and they even had the original voice actor for Prime… I think there was a bit too much humor, the parents were annoying as fuck, and I don’t really think Labuif was the best actor to cast.
Get rid of all that, and I through the transformers themselves were done decently.

Since they studios, producerrs, directors and writers who agree to work on these kinds of adaptations Clearly seem to have No Idea for how to do them well, I would not have high hopes for this.
… and I say “would”, because this seems to me like the kind of movie that will switch directors and/or writers 3 times before eventually being cancelled.
However … there is SO MUCH POTENTIAL in the Monster Hunter universe for cinematic interpretation. Epic Stories to be told.
Between the Sand, Air and regular Sea Ships, all the fortress cities armed with anti-monster weaponry, both thriving and in ruins, the whole culture and economy built literally off the backbones of the giant beasts who want to eat them (or at least grind them into bloostained dirt, as many monsters are herbivores in the games), and in the ruins of the lost cities, scars of EPIC battles of the past, sometimes against Kaiju scale doomsday monsters we haven’t even seen in the games.
Ever since I played TRI on Wii as my first MonHon game, I have been stuck on this massive Building Sized Horn/Tusk Tower in the background of the TRI multiplayer, which the NPCs say came from an Ancient Mega Beast. Comparable sized Skeletons can be seen in the backgrounds of some hunting environments as well.
Combined with the Ancient Flintlock Bowguns and Dragon-Type Weapons you occasionally chip out of hardened rock that no modern craftsmen even know how to make any more … there is a MASSIVE, EPIC story to be told about the Peak of the Ancient Monster Hunter world, where sligtly more advanced civilization(s) fought together in armys of Anti-Kaiju soldiers, SnS, Greatswords and Lances in hand, backed by Fleets of Sandships and Battalions of Flintlock (Demon’s Isle) Gunners to save what they could of their grand cities from threats Magnitudes greater than anything you face in the games.
If it isn’t cancelled, what they ACTUALLY give us will most likely Suck … but … it Could-Be EPIC, if it’s potential were properly handled.

Why the hell do they exist? (Hint: money-grab) They all suck! I have yet to see ONE movie based on a video game that worked great.
Completely agree. There’s always hope though. Comic book movies didn’t start getting good until 2005, and Holywood’s been trying to make those work since the 60’s.

In my opinion Days of Future Past was the first good X-Men movie, but I know most people liked the first two.
At this point I’ve all but lost hope with video game movies. It seems that games are too interactive (compared to the linear story that movies produce) to make it work. And even if they can work, I don’t think Hollywood would take the time and effort to properly do a video game justice.
I feel that video games would likely transfer better to television series than to movies. When you try to push all the content into a short timeframe like that things always get compressed and lots of details get lost. Same reason why people say “the book is better than the movie” – there is simply no way to fit in the massive amount of content, and lots of details get cut for the sake of time. Video games arguably have much more content than books (depends on the game) so I can’t Imagine a movie doing justice to a huge game like Monster Hunter. But you never know, I suppose. Fingers crossed.

I would trade better visuals for a better story any day. Game of Thrones for example would never make a suitable movie. There’s too much content in the books.
can you imagine a monster hunter tv show. they would be hunting every ten episodes so they can keep down the budget and the monsters wouldnt look good. there could be a few good contenders like a assassins creed tv series or an ace attorney tv series
but most video games wnt make good tv shows.

Some video games can work great as movies, though, since some of them can be beaten in under 3 hours if you try hard enough. The 2D Metroid games & the first couple of Resident Evil games come to mind.
Well, Monster Hunter really doesn’t have much in the play of plot. They can basically make up whatever they want honestly.
Sure, the games do have a plot of some kind, but hardly deep. It’s barely much more than a Mario game.

If it has a good script, visual effects and the monsters we know and love, it will be awesom, for sure.

If done right, this could be a great movie. Speaking of video game movies, I’m gonna be sorely disappointed if they don’t have Chris, Jill, Ada, Leon, & K-Mart (hopefully so she can be revealed to be Sherry Birkin) in the final Resident Evil movie. I didn’t stick with these damn movies just so the last one can only have two characters (Claire & Wesker) from the games appear. I don’t care if having them all in means some of them will die! It’s the fucking final act of a franchise! You are supposed to kill off characters people would never expect to die! Don’t let Barry be the only casualty from the games to die in the movies, damn it!
That & I want to see Chris, Claire, Leon, & Jill work with Alice to finish off whatever is left of the Umbrella Corporation!

I’ve sadly heard that might be the case. If so, fuck! I’ve wasted 10+ years of my life watching those movies & waiting for the finale where everyone gets to come together in one, final movie for a final stand against the evil Umbrella Corporation and that won’t even be the case. I’ll just wait for the movie to be on Netflix where I can watch it without giving a single dime to them.

Personally, I think this could work.
People already love giant monster movies or movies that involve giant beasts in general like Jurassic Park. This is basically that, but with more hunting.
I think it can work with the right script and directing.
Not to mention, it’d be a nice break from the norm of movies lately where there is either a bad guy as the threat or the threat is some natural disaster.
As much as I want a MH movie this, however, is guaranteed to fail horribly hanks to the hacks in Hollywood who will butcher everything about the MH world. I can see it now, the weapons and armor made from monster parts and resources would would look like some generic BS that belong on crappy direct to video movie or old tv shows like the A-team or macgyver, that bad I know this movie will be:/
Hollywood will throw some dumbass generic love story in it that has no place in the story whatsoever, and the entire cast will be whitewashed to hell, sop say good bye to the diverse race and cultures that make up the MH villages, and the acting will be the final nail in the coffin.
