Playtonic Says Yooka-Laylee Isn’t Coming To Nintendo NX For Now

If you were hoping to play Yooka-Laylee on the Nintendo NX then you could be in for quite a wait as developer Playtonic says they have no plans to develop the game for the next generation system right now. The reason behind this decision is because it is a small team working on the game and they’re already stretched as they are bringing Yooka-Laylee to PC, Mac OSX, Linux, Wii U, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

At this stage we’re aiming to just release on what we promised on Kickstarter – which is a lot for us as a team of twenty people!

  1. They said this in an interview ages ago and for whatever reason no one really picked up on it and it never hit the news. We have known this for a while though. Last time they were asked- a few months ago- they didn’t even know any more about the NX than the public did. They probably still don’t.

  2. Probably there is next to zero NX dev kits out there. Nintendo seems to be super late in the NX schedule, and I won’t be surprised if this gets pushed back to November 2017.

    1. Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Sega have all confirmed games for the NX* so there are dev kits out there.

*Just Dance 2017, Dragon Quest X and XI, and Project Sonic 2017.

      1. I was not clear in my previous comment, my apologies. I do know there are some NX dev kits out there — for the big guys. Indie devs and small softwarehouses already told us enough that they don’t have a clue on what the NX is.

        1. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

Except Indie Devs HAVE told us that they know what it is. You would do well to remember them mentioning that they had to sign a Non-Disclosure-Agreement? I’m requesting that you make yourself even more clear than before.

            1. Nintendo Sub-Commander Cereza

My Name is Sub-Commander Cereza. I am a Member of the Nintendo Space Division (Metroid Branch). I was clearing up one of your misunderstandings from before. Do you find being incorrect bothersome?

              1. So tired of people role playing here. Do you guys suffer from any kind of personality disease? If not, I think you guys enjoy being ridiculous, because your characters are not funny.

That being said, my point still stands. One f*cking indie dev does not make a summer.

                  1. I own Ori and the Blind Forest, and it is sitting right now in my gigantic backlog… The game looks fantastic, but I played like only 15 min to have a taste of what I had on my hands.

                    1. Man that game is so good, it gets a bit tough on a few sections but that’s what makes the game great. Its a bit on the short side as well, but the mechanics, the solid platforming, and amazing music make up for it. Whenever you get a chance to play it, do so, its one of the reasons to own an xbox, (but you can also buy it on PC) You dont have to, but heres a clip from one of my playthrougs.

  3. Maybe they should make a new kickstarter!

Goal 1 – Will port our game to the NX
Goal 2 – Will port our game to the NX by holiday 2017
Goal 3 – Will port our game to the NX mid 2017

(If they don’t have the kit, doubt they can promise anything sooner)

  4. This isn’t really the least bit surprising. They need to keep things focused right now and once the game is released, and if it does well, then they can look at how well it would fit on the NX.

  5. I was hoping it would because I’m kind of burnt out on my Wii U and would rather move on to the NX especially if the hybrid rumor is true. I haven’t even bought Twilight Princess for it and still have a few things to finish up.

  6. Another thing, they’re only making the PC and Wii U versions. The PS4 and Xbox One are being handled by another studio called Team17.

    1. If the sales aren’t what they’re hoping for on the current systems and platforms then definitely expect it on the NX, PS4 Pro and the Xbox Scorpio

  7. I’ll be excited to play it no matter what console it comes on. It’s been ages since I’ve played a good 3D platformer. I tried Freeze Me but it just didn’t have the heart that this has.

        1. No, it’s not. Yooka Laylee is basically everything A Hat in Time wanted to be but better. AHIT was kickstarted years ago and has incredibly sparse updates. It’s over a year behind schedule with still no concrete release date. There was a lot of drama about its potential Wii U release. Basically they marketed their entire kickstarter towards Nintendo fans and strongly implied that the game was coming to Wii U and even said they had been talking to Nintendo and publishers about it. Then they backpedalled and it’s not coming to Wii U after all.

I don’t mean to shit on the game because I was initially excited for it, but I couldn’t care less any more.

  8. Key words here, “at this stage”. Thats corporation talk for , “of course we are going to bring it to the NX, we’re just not going to piss off all of the Wii U backers and announce it just yet”. lol

  9. I can still relax, even if Yooka-Laylee may not come to NX.

Because Nintendo is so secret, I have no clue what they hell they up to.

I hope sicar dont mine while I hope thay Nintendo bring in Mario Sunshine.

How they hell do I make these rimes, it’s not like I have all this time.

So is Yooka-Laylee bad guy a bitch or just another fat ugly old witch?

Grunty: What the hell did you just say? You better not take my breath away.

Will Grunty get your ugly green ass on this game before I consider you a lame.

Grunty: one more remark you say to me, and harder still the game will be.

Will get your green ugly self out and come back to Nintendo and make some real wealth!!!

Grunty: Hmmmm I would love to make some money but im stuck here with micrsoft Honey.

Will tell them to let you go and out, its not like you are about to wonder about.

Grunty: But im locked with the bear and bird in the safe forever never to come back out and be able to shout.

I cant believe Microsoft is holding you in just to keep you from returning back to the BIG N.

Grunty: not to freat my little bear Yooka-Laylee is about to make you fear.

Will Grunty time to call it a night before the nintendo fans put up a fight.

Grunty: I understand my Banjo Kazooie fan just try to play me on N64 when you can.

  10. GRUNTY: Tobiyyah Tobiyyah on the wall, whats your favorite game of all

Me: There is this one game that really puts my banjo kazooie game to shame

Grunty: What a game you pick this cannot be, you actually pick something better than me?

Me: Will Grunty this game called Pikmin is my best, Pikmins 1, 2,and 3 really has the best of me.
