Zelda: Breath Of The Wild got an official rating in Australia. The rating is “M”, with notes of mild themes and moderate fantasy violence. As for the “M” rating, in Australia it stands for Mature and “contain content of a moderate impact and are recommended for teenagers aged 15 years and over”. This is roughly the same as a “T” rating from the ESRB. It’s likely that ratings in other regions are not too far off, and if so, we’ll you know when they’re announced.
Thanks, Ellis

First and haha finally nintendo is taking its games up!
It could be worth noting that Australia is just a bit more sensitive when it comes to determining age demographics.
This is takes place after Zelda II btw
Yeah…. no. Twilight Princess and even Skyward Sword both had M ratings in Australia. This means nothing.
If an age rating determines how proud you feel about a game, that pretty much shows how childish and insecure about your maturity you are.
um… “As for the “M” rating, in Australia it stands for Mature and “contain content of a moderate impact and are recommended for teenagers aged 15 years and over”. This is roughly the same as a “T” rating from the ESRB”
Twilight Princess was also rated T for teen, so it’s not the first Zelda to land a T esrb. Australia must have pretty mature kids if mature is 15+ haha
Will be very much akin to Twilight Princess. Nintendo going all out to make this GOTC (game of the century).
Don’t games get sent in to these kind off rating agencies relatively close to release day?
I wonder if this means the game’s release won’t be so far off.
And with that, the rise of many spoilers.
Not really; they do it much earlier so they can have an age rating in their trailers, and the actual content has to be finished by now. They just need to make it work well and asjust some things here and there, and also write the whole text. But the meat of the game is done, which is what the rating is based on.
Not always. Some games get rated and dont release for months. Civ Rev 2 for the vita got rated back in may… of 2015. It didnt release till march of this year. Thats almost a whole year.
…..wat?
ESRB “T” Rating is around 13+
wow…
Different countries have different rating systems
What others don’t understand that our M rating isn’t equivalent to the ESRB M rating. Our M is equivalent to the T rating. Australia’s MA15+ is what the ESRB M rating equivalent is.
in a country that banned GTA V in targets that doesn’t say much
Please actually research the ratings system instead of making ignorant comments. Australian M rating is not the same the ESRB M rating.
weiger
The statement still stand that they banned GTAV
Lol come on Australia. That seems so babyish
Australian M rating is actually the equivalent to ESRB’s T for Teen. People need to understand this instead of thinking the Australian M is equal to the ESBR M.
Thats really odd, I figured since they are in PAL Region they would all be similar
if it is indeed t rated in the US then it would appear that they aren’t being try hards like they did with twilight princess.
it’s ok, Australia is scared of everything
It’s like you’re scared of research, since you don’t understand M rating in Australia is not the same age range as the ESRB’s age range for M is. Australia’s M is equivalent to a T for Teen rating.
I like that you are taking the time to clear misinformation, but at the same time no need to attack people cause they don’t know this obscure piece of trivia like you do.
He’s making a gross generalisation and trying to be smug due to not understanding countries with different ratings systems from America exist.
And, magcargoman, some Australian stores banned GTA V, and LFD2 was even banned at one point. Sorry if you live in Australia, but it’s the truth that they’re not as lenient with videogames as others would like.
Only one store chain banned it. Every other chain still sells it.
And LFD2 wasn’t banned. It was edited.
They’re ballsy enough to live in an environment full of things that will kill them everywhere.
That’s what I was thinking when I was writing this, no wonder they’re so scared, lol.
A Zelda game rated M? What does it have, naked moblins? Link shows his nipples (again)? LOL!
Both Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess were also rated M, this is no different.
M in Australia is T in North America, M in North America is I believe AO in Australia. Our rating system makes more sense but that does not mean the ESRB rates games correctly, usually people makes fun of us ‘muricans but now it’s the other way around.
Do you know how to read?

There’s the problem! They’ve got it set to ‘M’, when they should have set it to “W” for Wumbo.
A shirtless Link is just the beginning.
~Peach
Rated M because topless Link in the beginning CAN be a female Linkle!
And yes, I know it’s rated M for teens, I just had to say it.
Never saw that coming.
