Koizumi Confirms Bluetooth Headsets Work On Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi recently participated in an interview with French site Melty. During the interview Koizumi confirmed that bluetooth headsets will work with the Nintendo Switch and if you want, you can also use a wired 3.5mm jack works while docked. He also mentioned in the very same interview that the Switch dock is a proprietary format.

      1. King Kalas X3 {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4! Hopefully it will also await us at Nintendo Switch if Nintendo doesn't FUCK things up again!}

        Yes it does! Oh wait. It’s the fantard speaking. Nevermind! Carry on, idiot.

      1. Do you? iambigb0ss was a bit vague on it. But he doesn’t mean 4K gaming. The Switch hardware supports 4K video playback (which is much less difficult than 4K real time rendering).

        1. 4K isn’t official! The custom chip might be limited to 1080p. Even if does support 4K, it also has to be supported by the firmware! And if the Switch can actually output 4K, it doesn’t matter if it’s a game or video. 4K games might have simple graphics, but still work.

          1. It isn’t but if the leaked developer documents are right and not a hugely elaborate (given the many many pages it contained) and surprisingly accurate (it showed things like dummy versions of the user interface before that was leaked) fake, then it is in fact supported.

            Your speculation that it “might be limited to 1080p” has even less foundation than the speculation that it can output 3840×2160 (4K UHD) at 30fps, which is found in the leaked 28 section system information document for developers.

            I’m not a big proponent of trusting leaks, but this one has a very small likelihood to not be legit.

            Still, make sure to note that this is video output, not image rendering. The Switch won’t do 4K image rendering with even lowest graphics settings and huge amounts of frame drops so don’t expect 4K gaming.

      2. Yeah. 8.3 million pixels and a higher standard of TV resolution. The switch has this at 30FPS. Not sure if it’s going to be a native thing though. The ps4 is native with Nioh at 2160P and 30FPS.

    1. I think you’ll sync your headphones directly to the console. So you should be able to use the Pro Controller while wearing BT headphones. This is very good news for a lot of people (including me).

        1. It has a lot to do with the Pro Controller. Many people wanted a jack in the Pro Controller so they could use headphones and not need volume on their TV. But since there will be BT directly to the console you won’t necessarily need one (if I’m correct).

          1. What if the Pro Controller is actually software-upgradable to send audio over it’s USB-C charging port? That could be an interesting concept. If it’s internally connected to support a data stream (also interesting for e-sports wired controls). Then it’d be doable to send audio via the wireless connection through the controller and the USB-C port to a headset.

            The reason to not do this from the start would be to experiment with their as of yet unknown ideas with that app of theirs…

  1. Cool cool. Glad my Bluetooth headphones will work cause they’re awesome and being able to use them when I’m in handheld mode or maybe even docked will be great.
