The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo’s follow-up console to the legendary Nintendo Entertainment System, launched in 1991 and introduced what many consider some of the greatest video games of all time – classics such as Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Kart, Super Metroid and F-ZERO.
On Sept. 29, this beloved console is coming back to stores in the form of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition. The mini system, which contains 21 pre-installed classic games and can easily be plugged into any high-definition TV using the included HDMI cable, will be available at a suggested retail price of $79.99. And for the first time, players who pick up the system can enjoy the intergalactic adventure Star Fox 2, the sequel to the original Star Fox game that was created during the Super NES era but never released … anywhere!
“While many people from around the world consider the Super NES to be one of the greatest video game systems ever made, many of our younger fans never had a chance to play it,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With the Super NES Classic Edition, new fans will be introduced to some of the best Nintendo games of all time, while longtime fans can relive some of their favorite retro classics with family and friends.”
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition has the same look and feel of the original system – only smaller – and comes pre-loaded with 21 incredible games:
- Contra III: The Alien Wars™
- Donkey Kong Country™
- EarthBound™
- Final Fantasy III
- F-ZERO™
- Kirby™ Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course™
- The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
- Mega Man® X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox™
- Star Fox™ 2
- Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV™
- Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
- Super Mario Kart™
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
- Super Mario World™
- Super Metroid™
- Super Punch-Out!! ™
- Yoshi’s Island™
All of these games would be considered classics by anyone’s standards, and some of them in particular – Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy III, EarthBound and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars – are massive role-playing games that can take dozens of hours to complete. Even for super fans who have played all of these games multiple times, the inclusion of the never-before-released Star Fox 2game will offer them something entirely new to enjoy – if they can unlock it by proving their skills in the original Star Fox game. (Well, they only have to complete the first level – we didn’t want to make it too hard!)
Included with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition are one HDMI cable, one USB charging cable with AC adapter and two wired Super NES Classic Controllers, perfect for playing multiplayer games. Having two controllers will make it easy for two players to dive into multiplayer action right away. Some of the games with multiplayer options include Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Mario Kart, Contra III: The Alien Wars and Secret of Mana.
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition launches on Sept. 29 at a suggested retail price of $79.99.

Update: Here’s the European SNES Mini!

Awwwwwwwe shiiiiiiiiiit
sh*t? are you crazy or what. You can play SF2!
I think you mistook my excitement for disappointment lol
Yes.
aw shit indeed.
An unreleased game? Now THAT is cool. I think I’ll be picking this thing up considering I never owned an SNES or played its games.
Want to sell a old system that be brings nostalgia but want to add something new. You add a game that was never released!
HYPE!!!
Holy shit and it’s on my birthday I swear to god if I don’t get this…
||Is not this simpler?…Is this not your natural state?…||
||It’s the unspoken truth of the gamers, that you crave subjugation, the bright lure of options diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for choices…||
||Your identity, you were made to be ruled…||
||In the end, you will always kneel…||
Not to men like you.
||There are no men like us…||
There are always men like you. :]
That wass actually pretty poetic, albeit creepy. HReat job
I like it Commander QuadLoki!
Well that escalated quickly
||It isn’t MNN if it doesn’t…||
https://media3.giphy.com/media/cgLnOHV8mhaGk/giphy.gif
Then ask for it.
Is it just a Holiday Special like the NES. Mini?
Probably will be. Nintendo doesn’t really seem interested in making money off these things. They just want to build hype and get people talking about them.
Well, this money cost alot of development. So, Nintendo cares about there fans.
Wait, hold up. Star Fox 2 is on this thing. That NEVER had an official release!
Why can’t I ever make a comment here without some asshole replying with something snarky. :/
I think they be a little TOO excited by Nintendo’s stuff.
Because you want it.
You know, this is perfect. A game was never release and it can finally be release in the public.
Now the question now remains this or the 3ds metroid game
I’d go with metroid 3ds personally.
If you can only pick one, I’d go with this cuz you’ll be able to find 3ds Metroid later… Might not find this or it’ll be harder to buy like eBay scalpers
You know, this is perfect. A game was never release and it can finally be release in the public.
Both. Definitely both.
Nintendo will make that choice easy for most: Metroid: Samus Returns because the SNES Mini will sell out in less than an hour because of limited stock…
$80 for 21 games? Seems like Nintendo is trying to see how much they can get away with. Of course, these things will fly off the shelves regardless of how much they cost.
On a side note, I really want one. Freaking Nintendo…
You could buy a nvidia shield tv it plays around 800 snes games from europe and us and pretty much every other console ever released aswell up to some ps2 games and a bunch of gamecube and even some wii.
Yeah I can easily get all that on my computer, and did when I was still in school. It’s just not the same. I’m a sucker for crap like this, especially coming from Nintendo.
While I agree with you, it is 100% not the same when it comes to side scrolling games. I experience occasional input lag on both my Shield TVs (1st & 2nd Gen). Mario likes to run and fall down on those edge jumps (input lag).
Yeah but I prefer to do so on my television so never really liked it on my computer and it has a nice controller and it runs ps3,4 xbox controllers and most usb controllers if you really want a snes or n64 one for example.
Buy it. This game is awaiting you.
http://www.nintendo.com/images/page/super-nes-classic/logo-star-fox-2.png
Buy it.
You know, this is perfect. A star fox game was never release and it can finally be release in the public.
It’s say the controller inputs are like the wii mote and NES Classic, but it doesn’t look like it in the pictures.
Here is the European version
https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Super-Nintendo-Entertainment-System/Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Super-Nintendo-Entertainment-System-1238330.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=SNESMini%7CAnnouncement%7Cw26
Killer line up… way better then NES Classic in my opinion
With Super Mario World and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars on this Classic Edition, this will be the first time I will get to play the SNES like my older brother has when he was about my age or 10 years younger when it first came out. I knew it was a matter of time before they would announce this though, and I’m super excited to finally get to play after experiencing playing one of the stations hooked up at Vintage Stock with Super Mario World last year.
Man, once the former employees of Argonaut catch wind of this, they will be PISSED.
I’m going to pass, don’t feel like fighting with collectors and scalpers over this.
Pre-order it. That’s what most people do in this day and age.
Pre-orders were sold out in hours.
I’m not that in to old games.
Star Fox and Star Fox 2!!!!
I HAVE TO BUY IT.
Forget what I wrote in the latest posts. Nintendo knows how they can get my money.
You know, this is perfect. A star fox game was never release and it can finally be release in the public.
Yeah that’s the right point. That’s what makes me want to buy thge SNES Classic. Just for that game.
I know right? That’s how I feel.
Nintendo toma mi dinero!!!!
I wonder if this is how they’re going to handle VC? N64 Classic coming next?
Oh it’s on. I want three of em’.
This has much more appeal to me than the NES Mini, though would it have been too much for them to include DKC 2 and 3 reaaallly. Hopefully they’ve learned from the NES Mini and will be stocking this appropriately, and if they do, I look forward to getting one.
…no Chrono Trigger…what the hell..
And no Demon’s Crest either.
No Mario is Missing while you are at it… Can’t have them all, they have to choose.
But Chrono Trigger is considered by SO MANY people to be the greatest game on the system. In many cases, the greatest game on ANY system. It seems a bit odd to leave that out in favor of Kirby’s Dream Course and Super Ghouls and Ghosts.
The reason why you have to buy a Snes classic
http://www.nintendo.com/images/page/super-nes-classic/logo-star-fox-2.png
Hmmm, I dunno if it’s worth it.
21 games for $80? Got more for less last time. Have to unlock Star Fox 2? Seriously? No Chrono Trigger? But Secret Of Mana & Star Fox 2. And Super Mario Kart would be the first ever, right? The one that started it all? All and all, not quite as good as hoping on the game front (you know, 9 less than should be), but still a good deal if you can find it.
Correct, first Mario Kart ever.
So there is a reason why we don’t have virtual console on Switch. Anyway, I’ll pass. Great games (where are Chrono Trigger?), but I’ve played most of them.
I want this thing but these damn PoS scalpers are going to beat most of us. 😑 oh well.
Pre-order as soon as it’s up.
Ill try, but damn, I work a lot Simply. I cant afford to sit and wait for it to go up.
I work a lot as well. That’s why I signed up for text and email alerts for when it goes live.
Excellent, the original Star Fox and Star Fox 2!!
I guess this means we’re likely getting Star Fox 2 on Switch as well.
In VC maybe. lol
It’s a better Star Fox game than Zero. lol
Star Fox Zero problem is the controls.
Ikr? Wii U controls suck donkey kongs. It’s so annoying!
I found the gyrocontrols more useful on the Switch than the Wii U. Maybe is that iPad controller which isn’t so good.
I’m not even going to try to fight for it, but I’d be pretty psyched to have one.
Pingback: UK: You Can Register Your Interest In SNES Mini On Nintendo UK Store – My Nintendo News
Those games!!! Seriously the greatest games on the console are all here! Well, except for Crono Trigger, but still. What a great selection of games. I can’t wait to not be able to buy it.
Maybe we’ll be able to preorder this one.
In my opinion Final Fantasy IV was far better than VI. Less ‘movie-like’, still better.
A good selection overall, still no Final Fantasy IV, no Tales of Phantasia (when Namco was actually good), no Chrono Trigger, no Super Bonk, etc.
They should’ve made a 50€ console with downloadable games, making the entire library available for 1$ per game.
That would be so much better for Nintendo and still very good for the people. ^^
Nice to see Nintendo supporting the scalper community by offering products normal people don’t have the means to purchase fast enough, so Nintendo fans get fucked over and the only people benefiting are scalpers.
If Nintendo can’t handle or supply the NES classic, or half their Amiibo collection, there is no chance this will be handled any differently.
It’s cruel to dangle things your customers want so badly, only to take it away, deciding you just don’t want to make anymore for who knows what dumbass reason.
If Nintendo fucks us again with the SNES mini, then I may not get the switch, even for Metroid Prime 4.
I’m sick of them treating us like garbage and not giving a shit about the people who want to give them money and support them.
I own ALL of these games already. And more than one copy for most, except Starfox 2. But I would still love to have one, even have some for gifts to friends or family. Nintendo is just feeding the people who will take advantage of the less fortunate or unlucky.
||NES Classic was meant as a limited edition only which they mentioned at the moment it was announced back then…||
||This one however has not been limited at its current state, the only thing left to do would be to give an executive order to limit a purchase for 1 per customer…||
And they better do that- I legit want one of these, if only for Star Fox 2.
||NA territory should be covered by this order, the rest are not in any major danger, there are still NES Classics in my territory as an example…||
Knowing that idiot monkey Reggie, he’ll misinterpret the order as “Limit the stock massively! Create as much false demand as possible, slave!” “Yes, master!” *growls*
||Lord Reggienator is the Lord of War, he takes pleasure in tormenting both enemies and his own people alike, nonetheless it’s Supreme Lord Kimishima that has the final word…||
I wish he’d fire the guy then. Or at least put another guy in charge of the CEO position at NoA. Reggie sucks.
I fucking love The Fifth Element! I heard they are gonna be putting it back in theaters for a limited time in a few areas.
yes, like all Nintendo products. Everything they sell is managed like limited time productions. They can’t meet demand on anything from consoles to Amiibo’s to NES classic to anything. It’s a consumers nightmare to then get trapped into a situation, every single time, where their only option to obtain something from Nintendo is to be exploited.
Nintendo mayaswell ship directly to the scalpers, and hold a lottery for the couple of units they plan on actually selling to fans.
I’m not playing their elite games where you have to pay outragous prices to purchase their goods from scalpers. it happens over and over. Even if I wanted to Buy Super Metroid for the 5th time, I can’t unless it’s from a scalper.
RAWR
||The thing is, multiple factors weigh into these matters…||
||Not long ago we found out that we are battling against the Applings for materials, the same situation could have taken place for generations in certain areas, we know High Command is listening, limited/timed stocks can probably also be a result by all the negative responses the loudmouths give online…||
||Unlike the Xbots and Sonyans, they cater to everyone and so must find a balance between costs and progress each time, they must also calculate the probability of success rate and failure alike, change of rules, general plans, sticking to decisions made before a product is released and then of course the contracts with other forces that play a huge role in this…||
||Amiibos are nothing more than cattle tools and they shouldn’t create new ones knowing that many still long for the older ones to be stocked, and like I mentioned earlier, the order for 1 per costumer should take place…||
Well, at least you’re using some flavor of logic in your explaination. I don’t 100% agree with you, but I’ll step away from the ledge. ;D
I don’t even want to know what Reggie’s response to my comment would have been. Probably enough bullshit to firtalize my lawn.
Still, this isn’t the first time this has happened, and if Nintendo didn’t spend a decade sitting on their asses while the Wii put more and more distance between them and the other game manufacturer’s, we wouldn’t be in this 3rd party mess for the 4th time either.
They could have kept producing NES mini units. “It was limited” is NOT an excuse. “We ran out of parts” or “We plan to offer these games on the switch VC” are excuses. Not, “Sorry, you can find one for $300 if you want one that bad, we are done.”
Who says they aren’t already in league with scalpers? When a scalper sells something for 3 times as much, Nintendo gets 20% of the profit. D: Terrifying thought, I know!
Seriously??? Is that true? >:(
Just a guess from my paranoid mind. But if it was true, god help us!
I chose not to believe it for now. That would bring them to a whole new level of low I’m not ready for. D;
Agreed. I’m mostly just joking about it. But we both know some people won’t get the joke & probably even go full on fanboy mode. (Oops! I used that word! It’s actually been awhile since I used that word on here to my current recollection!)
Well, this money cost alot of development. So, Nintendo cares about there fans. So, this is a new approach to expend there horizon. Beside’s, it won’t be a long term system anyway.
Already have the original SNES as well as Snes9xGX, so don’t care.
N64 Classic Edition maybe another story (of course I already own most of Nintendo’s first-party titles, so it would be a waste), but if hackers can add extra games to the NES Classic, maybe we can play Wonder Project J2, Sin & Punishment (with a proper control scheme and English subtitles) the Banjo-Kazooie games, Animal Crossing 64, 40 Winks (Prototype), Taz Express, Super Mario: Star Road, and Super Mario 64: The Last Impact.
If you don’t do a Barrel Roll, your PC is gonna start to burn.
Is that the best reply you can come up with?
What does that even have to do with my comment?
It’s funny to see someone who demans hackers to put hacked games on a Nintendo 64 classic when Nintendo didn’t announce nothing about the N64 classic.
It’s only a matter of time.
It’s not. Did you think people doesn’t know about Emulators? I don’t use it but I’m sure these hackers knows this looong time ago.
I have my SNES still but I’m going to get a classic anyway. lol I’m a sucker for console releases and the SNES is one of my favorite. It has a lot of games that I sold or lost over the years.
JOYGASM!!!!!! I’m preordering this the minute it becomes available to preorder. And it comes bundled with 21 of the greatest games of all-time…..NINTENDOMINATION will reign supreme in 2017 and beyond
My reaction when SNES classic is announced.
No preorders at GameStop. God damnit.
That’s whatt I’m gonna do. Preorder by GameBarrelRoll
HOOLLEEEE SHEEEIITTTTTT
IM GETTIN TWO
Yeah, you never know if you happen to lose one of them in a wardrobe. -.-
Good luck, everyone! You are all gonna need it if you want this baby! Limited stock incoming, y’all!
Oh really?
||Limitations are the keys to your suffering’s end…||
Quadraxis, i still hate you..
that does not mean am not open to help you to get rid of the communist scum known as king kalas..
– Church of Sasori
xD
Ignore Church, Quadraxis. He’s just pissy because I won’t team up with him to get rid of you & Nintendo. lol

One of my favorite parts in Golden Sun 2! I miss Alex…
That & he’s pissed his Xbox One is getting it’s ass kicked by my PlayStation 4.
King Kalas is a communist..
– Church of Sasori
xD No. That’s that idiot Don Mattrick.
am sure the idiots shuhei yoshida and kaz hirai are communist..
– Church of Sasori
After he nearly buried Xbox One, he’s the last person you should be concerned about getting insulted.
xbox one is a fad, a removed fetus, i do not care about it..
it was the console your beloved obinna wanted to get, am here only to spread his ideals: the hate against nintendo.
BTW, Obinna still needs you to get him a dog.. for his carnal needs..
– Church of Sasori
Don’t worry m8. I have my Arwing which I go to GameStop with the G-Diffuser at max.
I’m Happy that they are bringing this back.. this is a dream come true.
I missed out on the nes classic, but not this one. Preorder the second you’re able to do
So.
It’s a pitiful shame that this mini console like the NES classic before it can’t access the eshop to purchase other games from their respective line ups. Wasted opportunity there for sure. Also nobody seems to remember the absurdly short cables on the controllers for the NES mini. They better fix this huge oversight if there’s any chance in hell of enjoying this thing in a pratical, convenient manner.
oh my god they are releasing star fox 2!!!!
I would buy one for like 20-30 dollars lol
No Chrono Trigger, not interested
Secret of Mana. Unreleased Star Fox game, and you still don’t want the SNES Mini?
If they do it right, like with the NES mini, then you will be able to simply upload the ROM for Chrono Trigger and play it!
I’m going out of my mind right now. SO many amazing titles. I MUST GET THIS. I’LL DIE IF I DON’T!
I really don’t want to head to eBay like my girlfriend did for the NES Classic.
MAN, why do links to Nintendo’s site never work anymore when using my Wii U Gamepad? They always go to a screen showing a silhouette of Mario, Luigi and Peach. And I can never go any further.
Pingback: Japan: Super Famicom Mini Announced – My Nintendo News
This thing has both the original Star Fox and Yoshi’s Island- two games that could never be put up on Virtual Console due to legal issues with technologies used for the games- as well as Super Mario RPG which we also thought would never be re-released? AND the unreleased Star Fox 2?
To quote a song from the legendary musical group Queen-
“I want it all…
I want it all…
I want it ALL…
And I want it NOW!”
“Final Fantasy III”
I wish they would just stick to calling it Final Fantasy VI already.
