Microsoft Says Its Open To More Cross-Platform Play On Nintendo Switch And Other Consoles

Online gaming publication VG247 has published an insightful article with Mike Ybarra, vice president of Xbox. Ybarra says that Microsoft is extremely open to more cross-platform play on the Nintendo Switch with future titles. Things like cross-platform play are in the works with Rocket League and obviously Minecraft, so the more the merrier.

“It’s more about gamer choice, more about making an IP on our platform last longer. I don’t care about where they play, I just want people to have fun playing games because that’s just better for the industry. The demands of consumers and developers have changed. People are like, ‘we want all of our gamers in one multiplayer pool together, playing’. We totally agree with that. If any developer wants to have that conversation… Valve is right down the street from us, Nintendo is too – they’re like a block from us. We’re having these discussions as developers come up, and we’re completely open to that.”

  1. I don’t know who to support– Nintendo Switch and PS4… or Nintendo Switch and Xbox One (X). Mutual respects to the VP of Xbox and the Head of Xbox.

    1. Why would you support PS4 at all? Sony is actively trying to kill Nintendo by doing things like buying MH off Nintendo and releasing Horizon Dawn Zero super close to Zelda to attempt to gimp it.

      1. That was because of the deal they had, If I remember correctly, Rare was still able to develope for Nintendo as long as it wasnt for the home console. Rumor has it that it was Rare who made that Halo DS demo back in the day.

  2. Well nice ;) but it all depends on the actual third party support that the Switch receives and mostly the devs of a specific title to being open to the whole cross platform gaming experience thing. But still cool MS is open to it.

I for one would love some titles which are first party exclusive to MS on the Switch; Ori (both the Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps), Rare titles (albeit I would like the old Rare devs more) and Cuphead to name a few things that would fit on the Nintendo eco-system) but I dont think the love for gaming reaches that far. If it does … major kudos to MS … but highly doubt it.
