EA Says FIFA 18 For Nintendo Switch Is A “Must Have” Like Mario Kart And Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

EA will be making its Nintendo Switch debut later this year via FIFA 18. When it hits Nintendo’s latest console, the upcoming soccer simulation game will be a “must-have” title for Switch owners – akin to games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That’s according to EA producer Andrei Lazarescu, who also mentioned how releasing the FIFA franchise on Switch is a “win-win” for both EA and Nintendo.

  1. A watered down version of FIFA 18 is now on the same level as the Great Mario Kart and BOTW? I understand EA’s point in that FIFA is the best soccer game out there.. .. But this sounds a bit insulting to the quality of Nintendo games

  2. Well, once it arrives it will be the by far best sports game on the console. In the same way Zelda is the best action adventure and Mario Kart is the best party racer.
    It’s comparable for sure.
“Best sports game” might not have to mean “good sports game”, but they have been talking about 1080p@60/720p@60
and Ultimate Team is included – the de facto mode of the game and their favourite to cut out from “gimped” ports.
So, yeah. If you like sports man. There’s some B-ball coming up as well, but I’m pretty sure this is a more thorough game.

  7. That’s a weird statement. I personally don’t like sports games, so I’m not even going to give it a try, but I do actually hope it does well to booster EA and other 3rd party support.

Still though…just no. I’m sure Mario will get a soccer / football game on the Switch soon enough and can pretty well guarantee it’ll slaughter FIFA in sales. Choose your words more carefully EA. Us prom night anime fans never forgive.

  8. I think they want it to be a “must-have” title, and I’m sure if sales are amazing they’d start to put more effort into Nintendo releases… But seeing as how I own other platforms that this will release on and I don’t really play FIFA anyway it’s gonna be hard to justify spending this 60 on FIFA 18 for Switch knowing it’ll be missing some content. The messaging around this game has felt like it’s been them telling Nintendo fans “hey you better buy this semi-rushed port if you want any other EA games” but honestly I’d much rather them just work on and advertise more Switch-exclusive modes and features- especially since the Switch supposedly can’t handle the stuff they cut from this version.

To continually test the waters by releasing ports that may be missing content or that are a bad deal financially every time you decide to release something for a new Nintendo platform isn’t a good way to build an audience on those platforms.

This has to be a joke, there’s no way they’re being serious about this.

    1. It kinda sucks that you gotta buy this to get better titles, but it is what it is. At least they’re still somewhat giving Nintendo fans another chance unlike some developers who couldn’t care less anymore.

Personally, I want it to sell. Simply because I’m tired of seeing Nintendo consoles without third party support like the others. That’s got to end already.

      1. This game selling doesn’t guarantee every game though since there are still other problems, (Switch not powerful enough) but it’s the first step, I guess. Having good relations with third party means more and more support slowly come in over time.

Then, when the next Nintendo console comes, (that hopefully isn’t too underpowered compared to the others but most likely will be) there should be less of a problem with it getting games.

That’s just me hoping though. I doubt that’s gonna happen. Third party support has been screwed on Nintendo consoles and it is never going to get better until Nintendo starts thinking like Sony and MS. Nintendo is stubborn. That’s not happening.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a must have for me. Super Mario Odyssey & Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are must haves for me. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe & FIFA 18 are not. But I’ll give EA an E for Effort.
