Rumour: Universal Studios Orlando Adding Pokemon Park

News network ABC is reporting that a Pokemon themed park is coming to Universal Studios Orlando. Sources have been spoken to by the publication and it seems certain that a Pokemon Park will be added to the the KidZone section of Universal, where Woody Woodpecker and Barney are located now. That particular area was originally meant to house Mario Kart and a Donkey Kong roller coaster. That’s now reportedly moving and will be set up on the 400 acres Universal recently bought near Kirkman Avenue which is located across the street.

“That land will become home to Universal’s fourth Orlando park, and Nintendo will be one of several themed lands to be built there. Nintendo holds the trademark for Pokémon and this is part of a plan to distribute Nintendo out to all the properties, much like Harry Potter.”

  1. Holy crap! This is so cool. Glad Pokemon is getting it’s own hole separate section, it’s too big of a universe for it not to in my opinion. I would kill for a water ride or dark ride in the style of Splash Mountain with Pokemon everywhere.

  2. Quite a few things to take in here (if these rumors are true):

    1) Super Nintendo World will now no longer be restricted by any existing space layout. Instead the new park can be built around it. Very good news.
    2) Given the Wizarding World/Diagon Alley situation already in Orlando, it makes all the sense in the world that Universal would want to have separate Nintendo draws for all three of their gates (gate is slang for Theme Park when there’s more than one).
    3) I’ll be curious to see if Pokémon gets a whole land there or is just integrated into the existing KidZone.
    4) Does this mean Hollywood’s SNW will open before Orlando now?

    * Tangent: I would venture to guess that Islands of Adventure’s Nintendo draw would be a Zelda area, and that said Zelda area would be replacing The Lost Continent.

    1. RE: 4 Parks (for those who don’t know)

Universal Studios Orlando currently has 2 theme parks, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, as well as a recently-opened water park, Volcano Bay. Counting the water park, this rumored new park would bring the count to 4.

    2. 4) Orlando was always going to be the last one.
Tangent) they don’t need a Nintendo draw there, they are in talks already for some changes in their superhero contract.
Especially if Nintendo is getting it’s own area in the new theme park, I would hope they wouldn’t split it as there’s enough space.

      1. It would also act as a way to control crowd size in any given park. Rather than see one park get most of the crowds compared to the other 2 (3 counting Volcano Bay), this would even traffic out between the 3 parks and (more importantly to Universal) sell more multi-park passes.

They’re going to split this up in Orlando
