The 2D metroidvania platform title Hollow Knight from Team Cherry was one of the standout games from 2017. Its sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, is due to be released for the Nintendo Switch at some point in the near future – and it’s shaping up quite nicely.
Shown off during the Nintendo Treehouse E3 stream, Silksong tells the story of Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest. Unlike the silent Knight, Hornet is a feisty, opinionated character who speaks within the game. She plays wildly different to the Knight, with a much bigger jump and boasts her own fighting style with quick dashes. Starting in the Moss Grotto, players will have to work their way up the area with Hornet – in a similar fashion to Moon Studios’ Ori and the Blind Forest – in order to escape from imprisonment.
There’s a whole host of changes that take place in Silksong. Instead of souls, you’ll be collecting silk and in place of charms, you’ll be using tools. Make sure you have enough shards on you too, as you’ll need these to repair your tool at the bell rest points once depleted. During the stream, we also heard that Silksong will include a map. It won’t be easy to earn, but players will certainly benefit from the ability to reference your waypoints in this metroidvania title. While there’s no release date announced as of yet, it’s ‘coming soon’ to the Switch.
