Super Smash Bros Ultimate grabs multiple awards at Tokyo Game Show


The excellent and feature-packed Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch received multiple awards today at the Tokyo Game Show 2019. The game received the following awards Game of the Year Award, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, Best Sales Award, and the Award for Excellence. Mr. Sakurai was thankfully on hand to pick up the awards. It wasn’t just Super Smash Bros Ultimate which came away a winner as Nintendo Labo received a Special Award.

  1. However, it won’t get any awards for that joycon design for the limited edition console xD
    Still hilarious how its literally just 2 White Lines. Couldn’t have at least made it look like the smash ball item with some color?

    Ultimate is definitely the peak in design for the current smash formula. The only thing they could really do to improve is add more characters, stages, and modes.

    I’d love it if Ultimate just gets a somewhat steady supply of DLC characters and stages, and future Smash games tried to do something really different. Like have each game just completely rethink the gameplay and cut down the roster to only the most popular current characters and try to make them function the way they do in their most recent game rather than whatever is most iconic or what was done in previous games.

    That way you could have Ultimate for people that love it for what it was, and future Smash games for people that want it to feel completely new every time.
