GDC 2020 has been postponed to “later in the summer”

The coronavirus outbreak has been an increasing concern. GDC 2020 was originally supposed to take place in March. However, many companies, including Sony and Microsoft, have decided to pull out of the event. This, combined with the growing coronavirus concerns, have resulted in an official announcement from the GDC staff. The GDC staff said that “after close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March”.

As for what will become of the event, the GDC staff said that “we fully intend to host a GDC event later in the summer. We will be working with our partners to finalize the details and will share more information about our plans in the coming weeks”. Prior to the rescheduling of the event, Nintendo was planning hold an hour-long special talk session about the creation of Animal Crossing: New Horizons at GDC 2020. The company has not commented about GDC’s postponement at this time.

  1. Nintendo might upload its own developer thing, I believe they did the same with botw and odssesy before, as for the virus thing I hope people are doing there best to fight and avoid it, it seems pretty deadly, probably the reason we don’t have a direct but in hindsight they are usually recorded ahead of time so who knows

        1. Yeah i heard about that from the reports of Nintendo’s journalist websites and it has cause some Switch sales in Japan because of the scary part of this coronavirus disease affecting other companies.

      1. I mean yeah but this virus outbreak sounds about as close as the swine flu, and ebloa epidimic tho those did last about 1 to 2 years I think, I been watching my surroundings and keeping myself clean like I usually do to avoid sickness

Then why I always hear about Coronavirus everyday? This virus is literally making everyone scared about it.

  2. I hope everyone in the world, even gamers and developers are avoiding this kind of dangerous diseases and fighting for their lives. Otherwise, Nintendo will lose millions of there consumers if the outbreak continues overtime. I know this no Nintendo direct for weeks now due to this coronavirus outbreak in China, but i care mostly about everyone in the world and anyone who was infected in the outbreak in the world. I still don’t understand how this outbreak happen.

    1. It is believed that the virus came from wild animals from a animal-marked in Wuhan China. I too also feel sorry for all the people that have been affected. Not a cool way to start the new year.

      1. From wild animals from animal marked huh? it could be possibly. Some animals carry diseases in the wild. This is not the best way to start a new decade when people get infected by the deadly diseases like this.

  3. The corona virus is certainly making its mark in all continents now, but we’ll face it head on and beat it, just like we’ll beat terrorism.

Is the corona virus that big of a concern in California or is this being blown out of proportion?
    (Just curious)

    1. I think it seems more severe because it started in mainland China where most of the world’s economy is, so a lot of companies are getting hard. Death rate remains to be extremely low as far as reports go, so the dangers for the individual are either blown out of proportion or something else is going on.
