Economic Daily News: Sources cite new Switch model for early next year according to people in the supply chain

The Taipei-based Economic Daily News is reporting today that Nintendo is apparently readying a new Switch model for release sometime early next year. The news from the publication comes from various sources within the supply chain. Nintendo has long been rumoured to be developing a slightly more powerful Switch system which would benefit both consumers and developers. However, the Kyoto-based company hasn’t announced anything as of yet. Here’s a quick summary from Reset Era member, plebc:

  • The new Nintendo Switch will begin production later this year and be released early next year.
  • Macronix one of the official Nintendo provider for game carts is expecting record sales next year.
  • Macronix will be supplying parts to Nintendo for this new model with better image quality and “interactivity”.

  1. Unless this version actually has some better features I don’t really see the point in picking it up, unless your type of person that just wants a beefy system, as long as they don’t try to make exclusive games for it like they did for the new 3ds that didn’t work out well.

    1. going off the fact the gbc and DSi also had exclusive games, as well as the fact some games on the switch can’t hit 30fps and probably will on the pro model, it’s safe to assume some games will be exclusive.

      1. Remember when people said the same thing about some future games will only work on New 3DS? Guess what, it turned out that there were only a handful of games like Xenoblade and everything else worked in the previous model.

    2. I have a day 1 Switch and I’d like to upgrade to a Pro. It would be nice to play games at better speeds (thinking about you, Breath of the Wild)

    3. To be honest the “exclusive” games on the New 3DS aren’t that great, the good ones are basically just ports and/or available in other platforms.

The best thing from it was the better performance, Hyrule Warriors performed great on the New 3DS but choked on the original 3DS. I could see a “beefy” Switch selling well since some people care about that.

Personally i’m indifferent about it and we lack too much information to make a informed opinion.

    4. They immediately realized it was a bad move. So they continued releasing games that work on both.

Some games appreciated the extra power though like Pokémon Sun/Moon which ran faster and had better textures.

  3. Ok, I don’t want to get like super excited over nothing here. But does anyone else feel like this one’s… different?

    – The sources seem like they are from actual industry insiders
    – It is very vague about what it’s actually going to be (probably because any individual source in the supply chain wouldn’t know the whole story)

So maybe this one is real, even if it’s not a full-on “Switch Pro”? Like, I’d love another model of the Switch to be announced because tbh, I’m kind of not a huge fan of either of the existing ones anymore at this point.

  5. If we can get Breath of the Wild at 1080p and stable 30fps I’d be happy. Otherwise this “interactivity” better be damn worth it and not a second screen.

      1. Ok, what I mean is that I’d be happy if the new Switch can run BotW at a locked 30fps, no dipping under any circumstances; and at 1080p with no dynamic resolution.

  7. This is seriously going to be a huge waste of energy and money if they do this…

If the updated features are image quality and interactivity, Nintendo should scrap it because that’s not a justification for purchasing another somewhat updated Switch.

Should have just made a damn power house for once, but hey you’ve got controllers with cool colors and a whole bucketful of ways to control your character!

  8. “interactivity” sounds a lot when they are doing stuff like Labo, i really hope its not just not another gimmick.

Now if they DO make a more powerful console i wonder if it will be like the New 3DS that barely had any exclusive content or it will be more like a PS4 Pro which all developers still needed to make their games work with the base model.
