Rumour: Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Switch remakes expected to be announced this week

Pokemon Day celebrations kick off this Saturday and the rumour mill is swirling of ideas of what could be announced by The Pokemon Company. Pokemon insiders Centro are once again confident that the big Nintendo Switch reveal will be Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes. The team recently said that we “won’t have to wait until Pokemon Day on the 27th for the big news.” So presumably a Direct style presentation is scheduled for the announcement of the games this week, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl originally launched on the Nintendo DS back in 2006. We shall have to wait and see what transpires.

    1. They will happen someday. It would be weird for them to stop remaking games after they’ve done for the past 10 years… And they will surely NOT skip Gen 4 and jump straight into Gen5, although it probably needs it more then Gen 4…
But I seriously doubt it will be this week. Maybe at E3 or we get dedicated Directs to Pokémon & Zelda each.

      1. Every remake is a longer wait in terms of years. We are still past due for Sinnoh remakes and many trusted sources have claimed them. It’s going to be a long wait for Unova remakes, which sucks because I grew up with Black and White. I have a friend who grew up with the Sinnoh games, so I hope they get it right for his sake.

  1. Nintendo, please, I’m still finishing every Age of Calamity mission and already have Xenoblade Chronicles 2 coming next week.

  2. I’d love for them to do a Black Diamond and White Pearl Gen4/5 combo to really justify the full price tag when these games do come out. It would also help justify some laziness that can already be expected on these “remasters.”

Sadly I don’t think consumer friendliness is Nintendo or Game freak’s priority lately…

      1. Were they? I barely remember them and was when I realized I was off Pokemon (had been a huge fan since the beginning).

But yeah, I’m not being snarky here. Are they really considered the best Pokemon games?

      2. If the original exist, then just play THAT (assuming you already own a copy).

And how exactly is it “the best”?

Like most Pokemon remakes, I see no point in buying/investing time in time, since recatching the same mons I caught in Galar alone is redundant. Imagine Ash catching a second Pikachu, Charizard, or Bulbasaur, and no, that’s different all the 30x one-shot Tauros he caught in a single go.

I don’t want to get into a long rant, I don’t see the point in having multiple of the same starter (three Pokemon you HAVE to choose between before you can do anything else).

Also, it’d be really stupid if GameFreak:
-Doesn’t let you transfer Turtwig/Chimchar/Piplup and any of the Sinnoh-native Pokemon axed by Dexit.
-Drastically changes many of the Gym Leader/Elite Four/Champion/Team Galactic/Frontier Brain signature Pokemon teams, to meet Dexit standards.
-Doesn’t even bring back events such as Newmoon Island, Oak’s Letter, or the Hall of Origin.

AFAIC, I just want GameFreak to add the remaining 233 or 234 into SWSH. I don’t even care if there’s no third expansion pass to showcase them.

And if GameFreak can’t do that, then either hire new blood or I’m finished. The modding scene is looking pretty nice…..

    1. @CFG I literally said “one of the best” games in the series. Why are you both saying I called Gen 4 the best when I didn’t??? But as for why people want remakes, sure we have the original and can always play that, that’s obvious and goes without saying. But the purpose of a remake is so we can enjoy a game that we have fond memories with reimagined in updated graphics, a remastered soundtrack, new quality of life additions, etc. No offense but that’s got to be one of the most pointless devil’s advocate questions you can ask. I mean c’mon man, by your logic I guess absolutely no one wanted

Metroid Zero Mission, Resident Evil 2 & 3 Remakes, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled, Crash N Sane Trilogy, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Diablo II Ressurected, Metroid Samus Returns, The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening, Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen, etc.

The list goes on and on. I kinda get your point in regards to “recatching” but this is pokemon dude. If recatching the same pokemon gets boring and repetitive to you than you’re playing the wrong game series honestly. Each new generation adds what, somewhere near 100 pokemon, you’re bound to recatch the same pokemon again and again in each generation. If that of all things is your annoyance with pokemon then I don’t see how you’ve made it to Generation 8 as a pokemon fan, assuming you started with the older generations.

      1. Sorry. It’s still high praise as there are a lot of Pokemon games and saying it’s “one of the best” is significant…. but I think you got a bigger conversation going on about remakes here so don’t worry about my curiosity.

    2. That’s like getting annoyed with the Mario Series because you find the whole “Collect the power stars, or clear each Sub World” Theme repetitive. If you don’t like one of the main functions of a game series, then you’re just not the target audience for that game series. If you don’t like recatching the same pokemon, when the goal of each pokemon game is to catch every pokemon and the slogan is literally “Gotta catch em all” then pokemon just isn’t for you. My question to you is, why wait until the most controversial game in the series, when there’s nearly 1,000 pokemon, to decide you’re “finished”? You should’ve called it quits generations ago if that’s the case.

      1. @amanfromdaclan
You should try Nexomon: Extinction. It’s on Switch. I played it recently and it really helped me figure out what I liked and didn’t like about the Pokmeon formula (it was a mixed bag). It does have over 300 Nexomon and you can catch em all. A couple legendaries even evolve at lvl 90 if that appeals to you.

    3. Personally I don’t plan on buying the DP Remakes if they happen. Seeing how they handled Omega Ruby & Alpha Saphhire I don’t have high expectations. They’ll more than likely cut the battle fronteir, change all the characters design, and add pokemon from newer generations, which all ruins it for me. Now If they don’t do any of that and include a post game story like the delta episode where Darkrai puts everyone in nightmares and you have to find Cresselia or something like that at least where you’re interacting with Sinnohs Legendaries/Mythicals then I’d be on board to buy it. But Ic

      1. *But I won’t be having “fun with Dexit” because I stopped playing pokemon after gen 4 lol. It just got worse and worse, and even though I stopped caring, there was no way I’d actually spend my money onSWSH when it was lazily underdeveloped, had cut content as DLC, and just garbage quality overall.

      2. I personally think Pokemon got “worse and worse” after Gen 5.
Gen 6 is when they started making questionable and extremely formulaic decisions, with now on Gen 8 it lost alot of soul for a quick buck. Pokemon will always sell extremely well no matter the backlash or scamming the fans. Its like those Sports gaming fans like Fifa, NBA and NFL, they buy the near exact same game every year (stripped features reintroduced in later entries or just a simple roster update)

      3. @FirPtl That’s one of the things I’ll never understand lmao. It’s literally $60 for the same exact game and people go crazy for it. Don’t even get me started on how they actually manage to then dupe people into buying the Deluxe & Gold Editions….

  3. The Sinnoh remake was supposed to come out after the launch of the original 3DS according to all the uncles that work at Nintendo.

  4. Nice try gamefreak. I won’t buy this day one. I wait and see if exclusive characters screw me over first. More waifus and less bishonens please.

  5. Either this or the next Let’s Go game/remake.

This is not what I want btw… I just always saw Pokemon Co milking out as many Let’s Go remakes as they can.

  6. Well these remakes are the only thing keeping me on the pokemon franchise because sword and shield were just uninspired games to me. That being said I’ve been meaning to try nexomon to see how that compares.

  7. I’m going to be honest here; I think if Pokemon D/P remakes are coming it’s not going to go well.
Gamefreak has been on a downward spiral for the last few years, I would go over them but they’ve been covered to death so to see them take these beloved games and employ their current standards to them just can’t go well.
If anything, unless Gamefreak cleaned up their act, this is the worst time Sinnoh remakes could happen.
