Jeff Kaplan, the director of Overwatch, has left Blizzard Entertainment

Overwatch‘s development, along with the beginning of the development of Overwatch 2, had been lead by director Jeff Kaplan. Kaplan had been at Blizzard Entertainment for 19 years, but it seems that Kaplan has decided that the time is right to make his departure from the company and move on.

Kaplan has announced that “I am leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 amazing years”, and that “it was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience”. Assistant director Aaron Keller is taking over as the new director of Overwatch 2.

  1. He directed the first Overwatch and was very passionate about it, then up and leaves partway through development of the sequel?

Something’s up here. There’s more to this than what’s on the surface.
