SEGA announces new Sonic title scheduled for 2022

At the end of the Sonic 30th anniversary stream, the head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka, announced that there will a brand new Sonic game released for all current platforms and it is scheduled for 2022. The company declined to showcase the game, but they did play some teaser footage, Mr. Iizuka says that they will have plenty of Sonic news to share throughout the year, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long until the game is fully unveiled. The company also announced that Sonic Colors Ultimate is heading to the Switch system on 7th September and a collection of classic Sonic games will also be coming.

  1. I did enjoy the live stream but it a little short and It wasn’t even that long to begin with if you ask me. But I do looking forward for a untitled Sonic game for the system. See, I knew SEGA will release Sonic games for current platforms.

  2. I will avoid new releases that contain classic sonic, big the cat and omochao. Still want gamecube ports such as adventure, adventure 2, heroes, shadow the hedgehog and riders.

  3. Nintendo is the king when it comes to streaming their announcements, this sonic stream was decent but the announcers (including Iizuka) doesn’t have the charisma like the nintendo executives.

  4. I already had zero expectations from the start but even still, this presentation was so borderline mediocre. Boring merchendise, Mobile Game Updates, Cosplay Crossovers for Olympic Games & that hospital game (Which literallly looked like a dude in a furry suit yikes), another classic port for what the 100th time now, the Colors remaster was meh, just not exciting, and last but not least a trailer of Sonic running…

What will this next big entry be; a sequel, another failed attempt at trying to add new unecessary concepts, or will they actually use what they already have and make something out of it?

      1. I’m more than certain they’ll rush it like they always do. They do what a lot of companies do, they’re desperate to make something new to appeal to a new audience. They already have a crap ton of concepts that are just waiting to be dwelved into, but all they do repeatedly is ignore that, and try to make something new/innovative that’s entirely unecessary because they care more about profit than reputation and staying true to the fans.

But to answer the first question, yeah I have absolutely no faith lmao. As much as I hate to say it, that’s what Companies do, over and over until it eventually kills the franchise. Watched it happen with Yugioh, Pokemon, DBZ, Star Fox, F-Zero, countless others, & and it’s surely gonna happen to Sonic. UNLESS Sega pulls their heads out their asses & gets their act together, this big entry is going to be yet another punch in the face to the franchise.

    1. You know you do have a value point there, but, they did forget about there beloved franchises like Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Super Monkey Ball and Nights witch they haven’t done a new entry for them for 2 decades now. I know they mainly focus on Sonic now and days, but they did said that they are going to restore there old IPs back from the dead and its going to be a nerve wrecking to do so.

I know SEGA forgets about there beloved characters like Vanilla the Rabbit, Bean the Dynomite, Bark the Polar bear, Fang the Sinper and of course lets not forget the Chao garden that fans been begging for a decade now. If this new Sonic game bring in another new concept in the game and bring in new audiences who is new to the series, then maybe SEGA can actually return Sonic to his open world roots from Sonic Adventure.

I know SEGA only care much about money instead of listening to fans request, what can they actually accomplish for this game?, what can they do with the whole Sonic brand that they been doing for a while now. They just trying to expand the whole Sonic brand and the whole Sonic universe full of notable great characters out there?

      1. It’s sad honestly, they’re eager to introduce a new villain(s) and make them a mainstay in the franchise but just keep leaving more characters/concepts in the dust They’re doing the exact oppposite of expanding the Sonic Lore. I’ve been saying for the longest that they should start taking inspiration from the Comics, because all the lore from the comics alone is enough to make an entire game series out of. But I’m guessing Sega will never see the potential in that.

    2. Yeah I understand you completely dude, but they wanted to keep the comics and the video game series separately from each other and they don’t want characters in the comic series to appear in the video game franchise whatsoever. They want to see if they can reach greater heights for the blue blur.

Yeah they have been leaving old concepts and characters out in the dust, but, I still have a little hope that this game will get the series back on track since the Classic Era and They are putting a huge budget to this project.

  5. Wish I could be excited, but 3D Sonic is currently in a hole so deep that I won’t get my hopes up until they show extensive gameplay that actually looks good. Forces was such a nosedive in quality compared to Mania.

  6. I’m most likely going to skip this if it turns out to be a solo Sonic game again. Skipped Lost World, pulled me back in with Forces when it seemed to be going in a different direction, but it was the same corny writing and the levels ended when they felt like they just began. It completely puzzled me because Generations and Colors didn’t have that short level problem.

  7. Sonic Battle Royale game.

Idk why but that just seems like a very sega thing to do.

I mean… aside from being burned out on the genre… some sort of Sonic game that’s like fortnite meets Fall Guys COULD be fun…. it probably wouldn’t be though.

    Forgive my ramblings.

  8. I wonder if it’s still plausible to take the Sonic franchise in our own direction, and then pitch our ideas to the same company that conceals information behind an out-of-nowhere pandemic, but still stick to RCS and cringey Pontaff one-liners (as shown in the rise of the Wisps trailer)

I also don’t know why MoA is putting so much emphasis on Sonic Prime’s “self-discovery and redemption”. Please don’t turn our blue hedgehog into Ben Tennyson and have all the character nag/shame him for being himself.

I can’t trust SEGA much anymore, and fan projects like fan games aren’t console-friendly.
