Platinum Games director, Hideki Kamiya, has said on Twitter that despite contrary reports, Nintendo has never explicitly mentioned censorship for any of the Bayonetta series of games on the Nintendo Switch family of systems. He said that there have been times when they occasionally butt heads about other things, but that’s usually about the development side of things. The company has produced Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and long-awaited Bayonetta 3 for the Nintendo Switch, which arrives in October.
“I see a lot of people bring up Nintendo when discussing the nudity in Bayonetta, but during our time with the Bayonetta 1 port, Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3, the only suggestion we received was regarding the Link costume in Bayonetta 1 and 2, and how it should have been a little bit more revealing. No bias influenced that aspect of the game, and I think players can enjoy the game without worrying that it may have been. As Iwacchi mentioned, Nintendo isn’t just a giant company with red tape around every corner, and after working with them for such a long time, I get the impression that although there are times where we may butt heads, they’re surprisingly open to direct discussions around development and sales.
Bayonetta creator, Hideki Kamiya.
Nintendo has brought Bayonetta to their consoles specifically to be a property more aimed at adults to contrast with the kid-friendly image of its own properties. Looked at in that light, it’s not exactly a surprise that censorship isn’t top of their agenda.
Yeah the censorship option is really just a toggle for those who feel uncomfortable playing a sexy game in public. It’s a portable system and that’s still the main point of the Switch, so alleviating any of those feelings so people are comfortable playing the game is likely a move to try and increase sales. For those who simply don’t care about the sexual nature of the base game, boom the option doesn’t matter. Go play the sexy witch game in the way that best fits your style
More games should add OPTIONAL features like Bayonetta 3 has done rather than outright censoring their game to appease western social media mobs, I’m looking dead square at YOU SONY
Good. Censorship, and it’s annoying cousin localization, are crap. Also, inb4 “censorship only pertains to the government” types.
Watch, NoA bozos will censor it anyway like they did Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates.
