Finally Pikmin 4 has been officially announced by Shigeru Miyamoto for the Nintendo Switch family of systems and the game has also received a short trailer. Mr. Miyamoto said that Pikmin 4 will be released in 2023 although a firm release date was not announced. Nevertheless it’s a good day for Pikmin fans around the world!

I’m genuinely glad Pikmin fans are getting something they were teased about for almost a decade. I’ll probably pick this up too but not immediately.
So they were trying a new gameplay concept and didn’t get it quite right until now (hopefully)?
I get the feeling this will be the black sheep game of the mainline games. Or… everyone could love the new gameplay. I guess I’m not confident since it took them this long to develop it.
I hope not. Hopefully it was just specifically telling us we can get a ground level view of the action instead of the overhead view of previous entries. That’s what I got from it, anyway.

I hope you’re right. Miyamoto makes me nervous with all his “innovations” that only sometimes work out lately. The first thing I thought (well, second after “FINALLY”) was that he was ruining it by completely changing the gameplay. Might have something to do with him opening with like 2.5 minutes of Pikmin Bloom, tanking my confidence. But after watching it again just now, I can see how it might be the usual gameplay.
Ohhhhh it’s about darn time. Also as soon as Pikmin 4 comes.out.they need immediately start.on Pikmin 5. Pikmin fans had to wait 11 no wait 12 years. Which shows they didn’t work on the game immediately after Pikmin 3 was done. Yet they worked.on BOTW2 immediately after BOTW was finished. Why can’t they work on other games immediately besides the red and blue plumber and the green swordsman?

7 years ago, Miyamato claimed Pikmin 4 was very close to be being finished. This was before the Switch, so obviously it was originally being made for the Wii U.
My guess as to why it’s been delayed for so long is that, at the time of Pikmin 4’s development, Nintendo was getting ready to abandon the Wii U and move to the Switch. Since Pikmin isn’t a massively popular franchise, it’s possible Nintendo could have deemed it a waste of resources to release it at the end of an unpopular console’s lifespan, but at the same time it would have been a resources to prioritize getting a port ready for the Switch’s launch.
Miyamato has also stated that Pikmin was hard to prioritize amongst other projects, so Pikmin 4’s development was most likely halted in favor of getting other games done. Pikmin 3 Deluxe was possibly also made as a way to test Pikmin 4’s sales potential to evaluate whether or not Pikmin 4’s development should have continued development at all.

Yeah will he better be making Pikmin 5 for the Switch 2 immediately so it can come out sooner rather than another 12 or 15 years. If they make a sequel immediately then the wait time is shorter. Which is why Switch is getting Tears of the Kingdom with BOW and PS4 got TLOU1 and TLOU2. A console can still get two games off the same franchise if they work on the game immediately. GameCube had Pikmin 1 and 2 because the sequel was made immediately.

It’s about time! This was the best news from Nintendo in years. At least for me. In every single Nintendo Direct, I said (or thought) PIKMIN 4, PIKMIN 4, PLEASE!!! But then got let down. Until I just stopped expecting (kinda the same way I kept hoping for Mother 3, but then gave up). I got so sick of seeing one game after the other announced, and never Pikmin 4. I even began losing some interest in Nintendo because I thought of them as a “letdown company”. I’m glad this finally happened, so maybe I can start feeling better about them again.
I only hope that after all of these YEARS of development that the game is WAY bigger than Pikmin 3 was (at least more like Pikmin 2). Pikmin 3 was mediocre at best. What was there was fun. But it was so short that it felt unfinished. Heck, you don’t even find the blue Pikmin until the end of the game when everything is over with. I was also annoyed that all you collected was fruit, fruit, and MORE fruit. Aside from a few gadgets. I want the regular treasure hunting and underground areas from Pikmin 2 to return. I better not be let down again. 🥺
