The Super Mario Bros. Movie marketing is in full swing as the highly anticipated animated film is due to launch in cinemas tomorrow. Mr. Miyamoto was recently interviewed by entertainment news website Variety and was asked when fans can expect a brand new mainline Mario video game. Miyamoto smiled saying that fans of the franchise will need to stay tuned to future Nintendo Directs for news. The last mainline Mario game was the super-fun Super Mario Odyssey which launched on the Nintendo Switch in October 2017.

Actually, I change my mind. That would be hilarious for just the one scene of all the video game Mario’s speaking fake Italian gibberish (like the Mario and Luigi series) and just the single Chris Pratt Mario being confused and lost.

Odyssey 2 would be nice, but wouldn’t mind something a bit more experimental. As long as it’s 3D Free Roaming like SM64/Sunshine/Odyssey I’m all for it.
After the Pikmin 4 lies, I won’t expect a new Mario game anytime soon, Miyamoto is a hype machine. But the Mario movie is real.
Theirs a huge difference between Mario and Pikmin though, Pikmin ain’t pumping out brand new games every year like Mario so this really isn’t that much of a surprise.
@Felixguy – He is talking mainline Mario games, they aren’t pumped out every year either. We have had one mainline game per console except Mario Galaxy 2, we have had 6 3D mainline Mario games, 4 mainline Pikmin games.

Fans are complaining for a 6 year wait? Pikmin fans had to wait 10 years for Pikmin 4. Metroid fans had to wait 20. Starfox fans their wait is unknown. Dk fans are well passed 6 years. Yall complaining wondering about a Mario game when Odyssey isn’t even 6 years old yet?
