Miyamoto on Illumination “I’m sure we will continue working on this partnership”

Mario Kart in Super Mario Bros. Movie

The long-awaited Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination and Nintendo is now available to watch at cinemas and while the critics reviews have been fairly mixed, the audience score on both Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes shows that fans and families are currently enjoying it. Film website Screenrant recently had the opportunity to chat with the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination’s Chris Meladandri and it would appear as though The Super Mario Bros. Movie is just the start of the two companies partnership, as Mr. Miyamoto says that that he is sure that they will continue to partner with the animation firm for future projects.

We suspect this is just the beginning. How much have you planned for this new cinematic universe’s future. Perhaps Super Mario Galaxy for future a installment?

Chris Meladandri: We are so focused right now on this movie, all the way up to Wednesday, and how the audience engages with the film. Nintendo and Illumination have had a really rewarding collaboration. Mr. Miyamoto and his colleagues have invited me to join the board of directors of Nintendo, and we’re working together into the future with me in that capacity. But it’s hard for us to talk about anything else at this time.

Shigeru Miyamoto: Like Chris mentioned, there’s nothing we can share now. But I’m sure we will continue working on this partnership.

    1. It may be worth the 5 dollar bargain bin but even then it would just sit on the shelf.
The movie is horrible if you’re wanting a movie. It’s great if you want basically a five minute ad for every Mario game.
      Sega won this time around.

  1. I grew up playing the games and watching the cartoon shows, I have only one thing to say about the movie: It is exactly what we kids growing up thought a movie about the video games would be. Great visuals, taking bits and pieces from all the main Mario games and then references to other Nintendo games, the humor and dialogue is so-so, like the original Karate Kid movies were, but still great. 10/10 from me. Be as salty as you want, I thought it was good.

  2. Look at the audience score over movie critiques. Movie Critiques don’t tend to have knowledge In video games. One critic was saying Mario in a cat suit was “out of character” 😂 Huge fan of Mario and pretty much all things Nintendo… the movie was fantastic and the voice actors were very much suited for their characters. Don’t knock it till you watch it. Day 1 purchase on Blu-ray for me! Can’t wait for a sequel
