The super-fun 2D platformer Sonic Mania is celebrating its 9th anniversary this year and SEGA has released some concept images of the game’s pre-release trailer opening sequence. You can rewatch the reveal trailer where the concept images are from right here.

I prefer Sonic 2, and 3 & K.
I do prefer those, but sonic mania is more consitantly good while 2,3 and k have some horrible levels like metropolis and sandopolis.
I feel like sonic mania is a good starting game for a sonic fan, but 3 and knuckles has higher highs then mania, but lower lows.
Sandslop, fine, it’s not the best. But Metropolis is amazing! DAT MUSIC YO

That reveal trailer back in 2017 was such a magical moment. I’d always wanted a new 2D Sonic game, and seeing how much of a celebration for Classic Sonic this trailer was showed me that Mania was going to be an all time classic. So glad that we got these beautiful animations to accompany the reveal and release. There’s nothing else like it for this series.
The animation opening was done by Ian, the creator of Ok ko.
Tyson Hesse animated the opening. It was his first time doing a big animation, but he nailed it first try.

Other companies not making classic style games of their old franchises is just leaving money on the table. Imagine how well a Donkey Kong Country Mania would sell today
The game was so good and it would be nice if they did a sequel for the game to deliver the best experience.
