The latest Japanese boxed-video game software and hardware sales charts have arrived courtesy of the sales tracker, Famitsu, for the week of 12th June, 2023 to 18th June, 2023.. The No.1 game this week is of course Final Fantasy XVI, which shifted 336,027 physical copies on PlayStation 5., Naturally this has knocked the critically acclaimed, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, down to No.2 this week. The Switch sold 105 000 consoles in June, in its seventh year. Good numbers for final fantasy 16, but not high enough. Switch games are still Japan’s go to. This is wonderful.
F=ma.
Im glad FFXVI has NG+ and most inventory items, skills and party levels carries over, hopefully at some point FFXVI becomes available on PS4 as development by Square was scrapped because it added years of development.
Highly doubt it’s coming to PS4 considering you need a really fast SSD and not just any SSD, an M.2 with speeds of at least 5000 mega transfers (or MHz sequential), a mechanical drive would not be able to handle FF XVI. Heck, an SSD of 500MHz is still not enough to handle the game.
On to a different subject: I’m actually ok with this game dethroning TotK.
Yoshi P, producer of both Final Fantasy XIV and XVI, is a huge fan of Zelda. During the latest Live Letter where they talked about the new patch coming to 14 and some promo for 16 the team said he seemed ‘out of it and distracted’, perhaps from being exhausted producing two games + a world tour he had returned from.
It turns out he spent all night playing Totk and even brought his switch to the stream where you can see him just being immersed in the game as much as any of us.
Moments like that is what made me fall in love with the 14 dev team (which a majority also developed 16) you can tell they love playing games as much as any of us.
Tears of the Kingdom will do that to you. Once you go on a mission, you are gone for hours. It’s great square enix has game developers with gaming thumbs, like Sora’s boss Masahiro Sakurai.
