By now, you have more than likely heard the news that Charles Martinet will no longer be the voice of Mario, and will now be entering a new role as Mario Ambassador. It was also confirmed that Martinet will not be involved in Super Mario Bros. Wonder and WarioWare: Move It, which are releasing this fall.

Nintendo has decided not reveal who Charles Martinet will be passing the torch to, because they are wanting people to find out when Super Mario Bros. Wonder releases. For now, however, it has been celebrating Martinet’s legacy as the voice of multiple Mario characters. So, Charles Martinet joined Shigeru Miyamoto in delivering a special video message to fans earlier today. You can see it down below.

  1. It’s a nice little video, but I’m wondering why they didn’t also use it as an opportunity to introduce the new voice actors for these characters. They’ve been weirdly quiet on that front.

    1. Have you not read the article? The want to do this slowly, so that people can say goodbye to the old voice actor. All to its time.

  2. It says within the article, because they want people to find out when Super Mario bros Wonder releases who Charles Martinet will pass the torch to

    1. I read the article, it just seems like a really dumb reason.
Like, they want to introduce the new voice of Mario through seeing his name in the end credits of Wonder? Really?

Seems like a pretty medicore way to introduce the new VA for such an iconic role.

      1. No, it isn’t. It would be a dumb reason to say goodbuy to the old voice actor and show the new one afterwards. That would not honor anyone, whether Charles nor the new one. This is a honoring of Charles in the first place.

        1. Exactly. They should have made people wait until they saw the credits of the Mario movie to find out it was Chris Pratt who voiced him.

        2. You realise it’s possible to both honor Charles and introduce the new VA at the same time, right? It’s not a mutually exclusive thing.

They could’ve had Charles himself introduce him and give his blessing, and maybe hear how this new VA intends to honor Charles’ legacy.
Frankly, anything would’ve been better than unceremoniously revealing of their name through the end credits of the game. That’s an awful way to treat the new VA for such an iconic role.

  3. I completely understand Nintendo don’t want to say anything on who will be Charles successor to voice Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi, but we won’t have to wait too long for it. You know, streamers, leaks and greed. I will always respect this man and appreciate him for life and beyond.

  4. Nintendo really wants to forget about those old Mario pc games, lol. Martinet has been voicing Mario longer than I’ve been alive, but Mario 64 released after I was born.

  5. I hope that Miyamoto is gone soon , the guy hasn’t produced anything meaningfull in the past 30 years or so. Also because of people like him we we keep getting the same games and old hardware thus lack of games.

  6. The child pornography charges that Murnan faced back in the early 2000s were reportedly dismissed after a judge ruled that prosecutors could not prove that he had possessed the illicit materials.

  7. This Martinet worship is stupid. His contribution to the Mario series of games is minimal and he could have been replaced by anybody. I think the programmers and designers are the heroes, not the voice actor with a couple of short lines. Does anyone give a crud who voiced Rayman? Is he a national treasure also?
