A Nintendo Account is very important. It has your Nintendo Switch digital gaming library, as well as memberships and subscriptions like Nintendo Switch Online. Because of this, making sure that Nintendo Accounts are secure is one of the things that Nintendo has to keep in mind.
For example, Nintendo has recently confirmed that they have added passkey support for Nintendo Accounts. Passkeys enable users to sign into their accounts via fingerprint or facial recognition. A Nintendo Account can have 10 passkeys. You can see the list of devices that Nintendo supports with this feature down below.
- iPhone with iOS 16 or newer
- iPad with iPadOS 16 or newer
- Mac computer with macOS 13 or newer
- Android devices with Android OS 9 or newer

Why though I thought this was gonna be like some pin or special question thing but this is just plain ridiculous.
I can’t even use this stuff, lol. I’ve had to factory reset my phone because it wouldn’t read my fingerprint and I have to use an alternative way to login to the machines.
Im fairly new on Nintendo, but doesn’t Nintendo already have 2 step verification that requires a pin and a security question? It’s for better security, if a thief takes your Nintendo and it doesn’t have auto sign-in then it helps keep them outta your account. Im sure passkey support would be optional like 2 step verification isn’t required but having it makes your account more secure.
I would never do that.
And those who have neither Apple nor Android hardware, what do they do?
Ooo lovely Nintendo can have my fingerprint or facial data.
Nah I’m good.
That’s not how passkeys work. Nintendo would never see your biometric data. Your phone would be the authentication. If you have fingerprint unlock already registered on your phone, you just use that. When you create a passkey, you’ll use your device unlock method, and your device will create and store a unique encryption key, which it will send to the site. Then, anytime you log in to that site, you unlock your device and it will send that encryption key to the site instead of your password. The site will never see biometric data, as that is handled by your device.
Nintendo you should have done that quicker as then I would not have to change my account
What about people who don’t have a face or fingers? 😶 🖐️
Yeah, how about no? And by that I mean HELL TO THE F@#$ TO THE GODDANG NO.
