It is no secret that there has been a lot of speculation and rumors in regards to whatever console will be succeeding the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has said very little about the matter, if anything at all. However, their financial reports do offer an insight into what the company is planning to do in the coming months.

For example, Nintendo has actually included a section in their latest financial report about their future outlook for the Switch. Not only is Nintendo saying that they will continue to release new titles, but they even state that they want to continue to release new titles and content for the console “without being bound by the traditional concept of the platform lifecycle”. A tweet relaying the news is down below.

    1. I don’t think he said any specific time frame like “several years down the road”, wording is very important in these statements. Could be like the 3DS which got a few more games like Persona Q2, Bowser’s Inside Story, Pokemon Ultra, FE Echoes and a few more VC games. If i remember right it got first party releases up to 2019.

  1. The Switch is the first Nintendo console to exceed the average 7 year span, and a new hybrid console could very well be coming next year. Rumors have been going around for a while, and it’s only natural to think that if a console has multiple variations like the 3DS did, we expect a more powerful version of said console. We could see a new hybrid console on the 8th year, or 9th. Switch is harder to develop for, due to delicate components like the large screen and the large form factor. There’s so much technology packed into the Switch, and it’s no surprise it takes this long. That’s why they want everyone to know that they want to develop a new hybrid into the Switch family even if they need to take another year or two.

  2. Well they kinda of supported the DS and 3DS for a few more years after their sucessor was released, doesn’t mean they will support it forever or for a very long time though. I can see some games still being available on current Switch and the next machine just like PS4/X1 games for a little longer.

  3. Well the Nintendo President did mentioned that they are going to bring something really interesting after the Nintendo Switch. Looks like Nintendo is not ready to pull the plug on the system yet. I understand the their feeling.
