It is hard to believe, but this year marks the Mother 2’s 30th anniversary, so of course there’s a reason to celebrate. The official account for the series says that they are busy preparing various plans for the year ahead, which should spark fans’ interest. They wouldn’t divulge all the details, so we will have to wait and see what transpires. Here’s a translation of their post on X:

They’re always going to do things for Mother 1 and 2, but never for 3.
Why does Nintendo seem to hate Mother 3?
Why do fans seem to love Mother 3? Do people actually like Earthbound/Mother, or do they only like it because of smash bros? I find it ironic how all Earthbound/Mother fans are asking for is a localization for a game that already exists rather than a new game, and Nintendo won’t even give them that.

Some people have been able to play it via emulators for well over a decade thanks to the incredible fan-translation, but we want an official English re-release on modern platforms so the game can be experienced and enjoyed by a wider audience who’ve not been able to before. It’s what Mother 3 deserves.
And while there are some fans who’ve asked for Mother 4, most fans don’t since Shigesato Itoi has said that he considers the franchise to be complete with 3 and doesn’t intend to continue it. We just want the final game in the series to be accessible by the general public.
Don’t get your hopes up. Itoi is good about doing Mother-themed stuff. The anniversary won’t have any kind of video game releases.

There has been rumors on places like 4chan that a full M3 remake has been in development as the means to give the game a global release and realize the games original 64 version vision rather then the compromised and abridged gba release that did come out.
People said the exact same thing about Earthbound’s soundtrack and why it would never be released on VC, yet it released on the Wii U without those songs being touched.
It all comes down to copyrights. They may be able to get the rights to use the music or may not. I am sure there are more technical rights they are having issues with other than the music otherwise Mother 3 would have probably already been redone by now.
