Pocket Pair and Palworld are cooking on gas at the moment shifting huge amounts of copies and consistently being the most viewed game on Twitch since the game launched. Now it has emerged that Pocket Pair’s game has sold over seven million copies in just five days, which means it has surpassed first week sales of the well-received Pokemon Legends: Arceus which sold 6.5 million units. Palworld is available now on PC and Game Pass.
Cool. Palworld’s deeply unoriginal in most ways, but mixes together its borrowed ideas with just enough cleverness, humor, and care to be worthwhile in its own right. Also it thoroughly beclowns Legends Arceus in almost every comparable way for half the price, so I see this as an absolute win.
Jesus, I hope game freak takes this as a clear message that they gotta step up their game or they have to deal with some competition
Glad to see that Gamefreak and the Pokemon company have some actual competition at last. That can only be a good thing for Pokemon fans. Especially those of us who have remained mostly on the sidelines these past few years.
Palworld was what people needed after Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!
Arceus was such a breath of fresh air. When they announced SV, I was excited that they might be expanding on that formula even more. They didn’t… But I guess Palword DID.
with the gap it was far too late to incorporate anything into s/v based on arceus’ success by then
How I hope the first Ni no Kuni got this much attention. That game was so good.
Why do people keep saying this is a wake up call for game freak and nintendo? It’s got creature catching sure, but like it’s a survival game, not an RPG like pokemon lmao
If you played Arceus, you’d understand.
This is so true.
I don’t think Pokémon needs to particularly worry about Palworld. It doesn’t particularly try to scratch the same itch as Pokémon, but even if it did, would it really matter? Pokémon’s biggest asset is the Pokémon themselves – not necessarily that they’re better designed than creatures from any other creature collecting game (though in my opinion they are) but that they hold nostalgic and emotional value to so many people.
The way to send a message to Pokémon ultimately will be to not buy the next Pokémon game if it fails to deliver yet again. Palworld doesn’t hurt their bottom line, but that would.
Where is this dude aiming that flamethrower…
To the biggest enemy of mankind… nature!!!
