It isn’t coming to the Nintendo Switch, but the next installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is releasing in just a few days. The devs have been participating in all sorts of interviews about the game, but there’s one interesting tidbit from an interview that might surprise you.
You see, in a Kinda Funny interview with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi, Hamaguchi was asked whether there was any feedback or takeaways from playing as Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He revealed that “it was actually extremely confidential that he was even going to be in it. So, none of the dev team knew, including myself. So it was more like when the whole world knew it, and that’s when we knew it like, ‘Oh! I had no idea!'”

Not at all surprised tbh. Completely different development teams working on different games. If all it took to know information was to work on the same IP, then there would way more information leaks
Not surprising, smash 4 was always a leak fest and sakurai couldn’t reveal any character without spoiling it. I remember when one time they updated the game and they left in the classic mode victory clips for Roy and ryu lol. Ultimate was handled way better
Not really. They basically just said “You can’t spoil anything about this game because WE’LL spoil it our-damn-selves! Hah!” Kinda petty on Sakurai’s part, honestly. shrug Whatever, tho.
Extremely confidential but he was found out about among the Seven Squares
Slime, Luminary, Erdrick, Sora, Sephiroth, Geno and Chrono. For some reason Square Enix weren’t interested in Lara Croft joining Smash Bros. I’ve always wondered why.
